Broadgauge Routes.

Old Stager
I'm working on a new Broadgauge Layout in Trainz2004, the track isn't a problem except when it comes to crossing rivers etc. Most bridges have a 'fixed' length of Standard track on them, and it would look odd and very unrealistic to join this ith the Broadgauge track.
The method I have used to get over this anomaly, is to use the Disused Bridges that have no fixed track. Lay your bridge as normal, then slide the track over them. Once joined, adjust the height of both bridge and track until it's in the correct posistion. Believe me, it works just fine.

There is at least one non-derelict working bridge on the DLS that does not contain any track so you can lay your own track across it. Try "stone_bridge_single(no_track)" by Mike10 (KUID 35412:28025).

With some/many/most (??) bridges it should be possible to edit the config.txt file to replace the creator supplied track KUID code with a KUID number of your own - although I have not tried this. However, when some-one downloads your route, they will still have the original (standard gauge) track across the bridge.

The derilict bridges are working fine, also, I am having some new bridges built for me by one of our top Payware Creators.

The new route is starting to take shape very nicely now. it's quite an exciting project, having to delve into the very early years of the GWR.

Also, I had a tip passed on to me today, about creating Mixed Gauge track.
If you lay your B.G. track as normal, then place a length of Standard Gauge track alongside it. Elevate your S.G. track, then move it over until it's on top of the B.G. track. Carefully lower the S.G. track onto the B.G. track until only the rails are visible, then, move the S.G. track until only one rail is visable, and Voila! You have 'Mixed Gauge track.
Rather a slow procedure, but it does work, and looks brilliant when done.

"Home Made" mixed gauge track is fine .......until you come to curves and junctions. Do not go there! Believe me, it's more trouble than it's worth.
I'll wait until someone can make a mixed gauge track properly, the trouble is, I don't think it would have too many people downloading it, as I seem to be the only person working with Broadgauge Trainz? Or am I?

I am also looking for a dual gauge track spline but I have the added problem of finding/creating track as designed by Brunel. He used track with a wide base and cross ties every 2 or 3 feet. No sleepers. I have pictures of track used around 1900,s but I lack the experience to create the track. Is there anyone out there who can send me a tutorial for dummies on track creation.

There are 3 versions of BG track from Paulz Trainz that is free with any purchase of BG items:

This includes most of the variants of BG track. More pics at:

also some BG signals, signal cable structure, mileposts and turntable for BG, besides 2 locos and pleanty of R/S

Paul, your Mixed Gauge track is brilliant. I have layed some this afternoon, and I shall be soon using it to relay the complete layout.
I shall use the double goods shed from the DLS as a Transfer Station and now with the mixed gauge track I can run trains of both gauges.

This will give a lot more scope to things. Thank You.

Remember Sandie, if you are modelling around 1892, then use part of the converted track too !! (4=Dual gauge, 5=converted to SG)

MikeBR thanks for your order, you sould use track 1 (for 1860) and will now be able to bash on and get that BG route laid, and celebrate the 200th Aniv of Brunels work

Thanks Paul. I've set my BG layout to 1890 or thereabouts using a little bit of 'Modellers Licence'.:)

Many thanks for the interesting info you have sent me. That Plym Valley/Lanceston Line is very special to me for personal reasons. I couldn't believe it when I noticed the line to which those articles referred. An amazing coincidence!

I would like to get some broad gauge track as a lot of the commuter lines & branch lines in South Australia is Broad Gauge.

Think they are talking about a different broad gauge (7ft or there abouts).
You are in luck though, I just uploaded my own broad gauge (5ft3in, Irish/VR/SAR) track that matches the Auran dusty track.
You'll find it under my username (S301) or author ID (103475).

I think that Paulz Trainz is on to another winner with his B.G. and Mixed Gauge track, it will really bring a completly new dimension to the Trainz experience.:)

Well Sandie, I guess you are over the turkey & Xmas pud by now (strange oer here, we had roast beef for Xmas and Turkey on another day, Thanksgiving)

How is your BG route going ??

Got my first 1850 commission 2-4-0ST loco running, I will post a pic here soon

Hi Paul, yes the holidays are well and truly behind us now, and you asked me how my B.G. Route is progressing. Well, I'm ashamed to say it, but I haven't done a lot with it for the past two weeks or so, (I'm rather afraid that Restormel Castle has taken precedence) shame on me......!

However, I will certainly make an effort to do some work on it this Month, first job is to completely relay all the track using your mixed gauge track.
I will keep you posted as to how I'm getting on. Thanks for your interest. I appreciate it.:)

Yep Sandie, use that mixed gauge track as I will be updating it with the same KUID. This time will have some new features. I think there is a way of changing the track already laid with the new by a one line change.

And we cant have any slacking, what would IKB have thought ?? He had tremendous energy (well his workers did). We may even see the 'Great Western' in its true glory someday, with railways, bridges, steam ships etc. That era was such a busy time, no wonder our grandfathers had so much 'get up and go' inherited (or was it their fathers that inspired them ??)

The only comment I would make is if you are using payware track then I think the layout like the MURCHISON series ends up in the payware section even if you don't make money from it. Unless of course Paul would like to make the broad gauge track available on the DLS as he has done with some other track in the past hoping to make money on the locos and rolling stock since I think he is the only source of these at present.

I understand there is already BG on the DLS. PaulzTrainz BG track is FREE (with first order of any BG item) As for the payware vs Freeware, John, I contribute a fair bit of time to freeware goods in the background, which many are not aware of. Remember your first container on the DLS was infact a re-skinned one of mine. And now there are hundreds !!!

Since it is not possible to obtain the track without a purchase I think it counts as payware. I am more than happy to obsolete the one container on the DLS which was done to showcase your work. No other containers under my name use your mesh and it was not my first reskin.

I think by embedding adverts for your wares in the messages you risk moving the whole thread to the payware section.

I have no issue with payware, I continue to purchase payware items and I am pleased that you have created many items that did not exist in Trainz before. In fact I worked with you to help get you established. I am also pleased to see you posting messages helping others create items.

The issue to me is simply to point out that by incorporating track that needs money spent to obtain it means that the layout like Murchison end up in the payware forum even though in this case the creator makes no money from them. The Murchison layouts are free but incorporate payware scenery items.

"PaulzTrainz BG track is FREE" well then make it so on the DLS and remove any ambiguity.

In the past you have made track available on the DLS for free and I would suggest it would not be a bad business decision to make your broad gauge track available also for free since no other creator at this point in time has any broad gauge rolling stock or locos.

At the moment the alternatives are for Sandie to use fourjays5000's track if he wishes to have his layout in freeware or your track if he is happy for it to appear in payware.

ANY route developed (and there are 4 to my knowledge) that uses my track, may include my track as part of the pack. As most (if not all BG items are my creation) then one assumes that BG track will only be required for BG items.

I am not trying to advertise with my posts, but this thread was about BG so until someone creates locos/rolling stock for BG, then I am the only source, therefore one assumes that I should post here to reply.
