Brisbane CityTrain - 800x600 pixels

Cricketstar has a point, there is no Roma Street Platform 1. (I guess that's what they call the bus depot. :hehe: )

And no freight goes through Roma Street, they don't want fumes in the tunnels to Central and Brunswick Street. All freight goes round the RNA Circuit now.

TRIVIA: All long-distance services from the north go around the RNA Circuit in order to arrive at Platform 10 facing northwards. The Westlander from Charleville also goes around the RNA Circuit, through the "Hole in the Wall" track at Bowen Hills, and back down into Roma Street Platform 2 or 3.

the westlander uses platform 10 just like all 3ft 6in long distance and you do get the occasional freight going through the city

4:55 to Pinkenba Exp Via Ascot Run Through Loop

HI Everyone,

Just finished re-tracking the Pinkenba Line to 1951 until 1972 condition, I hope to put up some screenshots very soon. I just textured some parts of the route, and it looks majical for my home line. Which I ride to and from school  . btw, on my route their is a Roma Street Platform I, it was demolished for 80's Transit Center and in the early 90's they muddled up all the platform numbers which they cut the original platform III our of use now platform 4 stands opposite.I hope to add a DD17 to the ranks of Q.G.R Stock.

Happy Trainzing,

Actually,to be precise Scott, the RNA circuit as you call it, is the Main line. The tracks through town are the suburban lines. They do have very good extraction fans in the tunnels, so really, exhaust isn't really a problem (or shouldn't be) but we don't really want to bother Customers (we don't have passengers anymore) with any lingering smell so they don't use the city route much. Besides that, most of the freighters are carrying stuff you don't want going through high populace areas.

There is a smoke extraction chimney on the footpath of one of the streets between Central and the Valley railway stations. On a hilly street northern side, from memory.

If lucky you can see smoke coming out of the chimney if there is a steam special through the tunnel, although I assume crews are told to reduce smoke these days.

Someone here may know the exact location of the chimney so it can viewed on Google Earth street view and thus modelled on Trainz. It does not look like a chimney and most people would not be aware of its importance these days.

Petan,
That would be one of the two used in the old tunnels. The fans I was thinking of or reffering to in my post, are the ones in the new tunnels. They are (I believe) tied into the computer system that is used by Control and actually sense if it is an electric or diesel or steam coming into the tunnel and starts the fans going automatically. Where they are exhausted too I don't know. BTW, the other fan from the old tunnels comes up in the middle of a school yard, much to the delight of the school kids when a train goes through. Much fun is had finding out what happens to different objects when subjected to the up blast of air (so I saw once on TV).

I got wind of this that there finally making a documentry on the South Coast Line, and I would like to keep posting on my 1899 SCL Project, which I might start very soon. If you see Callum on the fourms, tell to get back to me immediatly or I will just not bother wasting my time getting refference when people are not commited to their promises. To be continued....

Someone here asked not too long ago about the former Mayne Station, now replaced by a resited Bowen Hills station.

A colour picture of Mayne Station in 1967 is on the front cover of the May 2011 Australian Railway History, published by the ARHS.
http://www.arhsnsw.com.au/arh.htm and remember to click the image for a larger version.

The image is of a train coming from the old Bowen Hill Station direction and is heading to Shorncliffe as noted by the destination board on the loco. The picture of the destination board may also help anyone producing a trainz version of the destination board.

I too bought the South Coast line book, my only downside to it, was no dust-jacket on it, nad no 'detailed' trackplans and such of the various stations and locations, which I thought could have really added to it, but QR being what they are, its impossible to get *any* details...but a good read, about 1/3 the way through it, and its nicely laid out and detailed.

I agree, a great book. In fairness to QR, the final closure of the line was 47 years ago now - surely there has to be a point in time when info that old gets put into the state archives...

I too was hoping for the station plans, especially Tugun, but apart from that, I learnt a lot from the book. Southport, Coolangatta and Tweed Heads track plans have already been published in the ARHS Bulletins so I have them already. Ernest Junction's track plan was published in another book so I have that as well.

Some may have seen my request to Jerker over on the Victrainz forum asking for the Tweed Heads/ Coolangatta DEM.

Has anyone started work on the Tweed Heads to Currumbin area using correct geographic DEM data, including heights, that maybe they could share as that would save Jerker some work? I am mainly interested in the Tweed Heads to Currumbin area.

Thanks
Peter C

Now ready for track laying by you :)

Steam era route Tweed Heads to the Logan River north of Bethania, including the Southport section as well as the start of the Beaudesert line.

The route is called QLD_South_Coast10.cdp and is ready for downloading at the usual Victrainz storage site.

With many thanks to Jerker for his work!!

Cheers

Beerburrum Screenies

Here's some screenies of the Beerburrum area, with a low wooded bride where Beerburrum Road crosses the railway.

I'm getting slowly towards GHM, but now I'm onto the single track, so things should speed up quite a bit.

Letters To The Commissioner

Hi Everyone:cool:

Mulie, if your interested in helping me out building it. Give me a shout on a email or a pm. Alot of track laying down, plus if you know someone who can help out making stuff, I am handling the locomotives such as the Steph-PB's.

Peter C; Thank god I have you helping me, greatly appreciated, mate. Can you get a hold of all SCL Station Diagrams, Building Plans, Bridge Design Drawings.

Jake; I have not got the IPSWICH ROUTE from Garry, yet. Things have been on hold since my computer died, but I backed up my work. Will be working on the SCL over the holidays and a little of my QGR Suburban: 1952 to 1961...this era will be different to Ghosty's route since it will be only steam era.

P.S. I could really use a brand new Walschaerts PB15, and a few of those 'Southport Carriages' [I have diagrams of both] email me too if interested.

I could really use someone to make the buildings and especially the bridges over the major rivers? Any takers

With Regards, and will be back online this Saturday.

To model a Steam era only Brisbane you would need to be modelling the period 1865 to 1952. See once the First Diesel locos appeared they ran through Brisbane on the long distance runs and express freight. And with the arrival of Diesel the transition from steam to all Diesel Operatiosn had started and Brisbane was no longer all Steam.
