Well, PVincent has a point. From what I have seen in my family and with my friends, kids can be wonderful or a drag. IMHO, it all depends on two key ingredients- discipline and finances.
In families where children recieve no discipline and chaos reigns, kids can be a major "drag". In families where the behavior of children are closely monitored and controlled, parents will tell you their children are best thing that ever happened to them.
Finances are a big part of the equation. A family that can not afford the cost of bringing up a child results in the dreaded "second job syndrome" and often divorce. Don't have them if you can't afford them.
