Blender exporter

Have you made any content with Blender and the exporter and put it into trs2006 onwards?

RE CMP ...Only put my trainz user name in the set up, as don't need the Internet connection as use ftp.
No problems so far with it crashing computer or locking like last time.
CCP seems reasonable at present.
Also had to reinstall Vista, updates and programs a few days back (nothing to do with trainz) but all seems OK so far.

Amended post although I got the few items into trainz OK as mentioned with the exporter.
Redid them and no luck and too many hours now spent.
No faults in CCP and thumbnail attached etc and config finished in CCP etc.
Also remade the exported im files from blender for castle and barge.
No idea whats altered but think I will defer further efforts until the exporter
is finalised and out of the beta stage.
Also reinstalles tc3 but still same result.
Also perhaps will wait to see what file types will be used for trainz2009, etc, and what further changes there will be.

Thanks all as learn't quite a lot from this thread.
Also now got a pdf reader at just over a meg install thanks to the links in thread.

Would be grateful if you could advise as spent quite a few hours on this.
As detailed previously I was unable to get the castle and barge back into tc3. exported from Blender to im.
So tried a roundabout route and used one of my own items made a few years ago on DS and updated it with the CCP to see what the differrence was when creating a new config with ccp updated to tc3.
the previous version that didn't work was version 2.8
this time it put in version 2.7.
Also I do not have an extra bracket after the thumbnails. Is that correct.
The version that didn't work has 2 closing brackets.
This is the version that works and got the castle back into tc3.
I only put one bracket in after heght.
I think auto create 1 is obsolete in version 2.8?
Will try it with 2.8 in and see what the ccp says using the same working config as below.

What to do next....
Will download my content off the DS and see if I can update them to 2.7 or 2.8 version with a view to the being compatible to 2009/10 versions.
But unlikely to use the DS again to upload content.

Although I re-downloaded gmax but I lost the plot with their registration process which seems to have altered on their complex site plus I have changed my email address since last time.
So working on the basis as KIS for all my future computer work will be sticking to Blender which also means the exporter for future content making.

Incidentally I made Criccieth castle from all seperate parts cloned in object mode then joined.
Blender showed 4 materials in the box so deleted them to show 1 as the joined parts only have one material.
This then exported and is what I put into trainz. Hope that works with the other castles I made.
Some of the castles have seperrate textures for ground, rock, bricks, and windows.
Will try seperating these parts with a seperate material colour on each plus different UV texture on each and see what happens with the exporter.

I'm doing a spell of documenting how to use Textures and UV mapping in Blender in the wiki when I've got that sorted out I'll have a look at your models.

Changed the config to version 2.8 which removes the auto-create 1.
Went into trainz the first time OK but second time doesn't go into the Surveyor.

Maybe keep to 2.7 in config which keeps auto-create 1.
Bit tricky at present as don't understand the logic of what is going on.
Try again with the config based on my own updated content from DS which it updates to 2.7.That worked OK last time and maybe exporter is stable at 2.7 version. Making a new template config in CCPwith tc3 makes the config at 2.8 version.


I think I will leave posting further now and see if others try things out to see how they get on and if they post, or when I try a few more based on 2.7 version in config and if it all stays stable will post again...could also be trainz data base etc causing problems when you alter configs etc?

I've just finished step by step instructions on creating a cylinder and texturing it in the wiki book under Blender tutorial textures.

Please try it out and see if I'm omitted anything critical.

Spent another few hours trying to sort this out but made some progress.
First the CCP is not always correct!
Using TC3. I managed to put Conway castle into trainz with 3 seperate textures on 3 seperate meshes in the castle.
This is the Conway without the water gate entrance as made two versions.

I did have 4 textures but couldn't get the floor to load so remade the base to include the floor. Can't remember if it will only take 3 textures.
3 textures, stone towers, windows and doors, and rock base.
The castle was made from cloned parts in object mode a few years back.
Cloned towers, cloned walls etc.

Put a seperate material colour on each of the 3 meshes.
joined all the windows and doors as basically just shaped boxes let into the walls and towers.
then the base seperate and main castle seperate.
then named the material section, links and pipelines section etc with the same name as the UV texture for that part.
Doing each seperate mesh in turn.
The problem was the CCP decided it wanted to delete auto create 1 and when I tried it again it would not go into Surveyor.
Re-edited it to include it back and it loaded OK.

Blender exporter to im file into trainz.......To confirm the previous method would works again, I installed my second version of Conway Castle into TC3 using the exporter.

Apparently limited to 3 textures as again would not load the 4th texture of the cobblestones so joined rock base to the foor as in the previous example.
These were 2 seperate meshes so just joined joined them together in object mode. Control plus J.

Windows and doors about 20 different cloned textured meshes and joined them all together into 1.

Castle is seperate and there is a seperate mesh of the rock base with the joined flat plane for the floor.
When you join the parts it may show 4 or 5 materials but when joined there is only one material on a mesh joined from parts.
So delete all the materials and add new, etc as detailed previously so it shows 1.
Each mesh made from joined parts should now show 1 DIFFERENT NEW material on each, before adding the relevant UV texture to each.
CCP comes up with exactly the same "so called error" when set to version 2.7 to delete (auto create 1).

But that stays otherwise will not load into trainz as described previously. So think that will do for now from my efforts..............see config below

I have enclosed the working config for TC3.
It brings a so called error up to delete auto-create 1 but that brings the error that it won't load into trainz.
I have set it to version 2.7.
TC3 Set it to 2.8 version but it didn't load but that was when I was first trying it.
Also the config should be set to special military not Commercial etc but leaving it as it is for now as might lose the version that works. Just tried it again and no error to delete auto-create 1 that time. Seems to vary.

Infortunately I can't see much point in me posting about Blender at present on this thread and perhaps I will just stick to making content with Blender which I have done for several years, for which I have the option of using the .blend file in a few different simulators depending on the file type I export to, especially the forthcoming sailsimulator 5 which I am waiting on.

To be honest not sure if there is much interest in Blender on this forum going by the response, and certainly hasn't been over the several years that I posted on the Trainz forums. Incidentally export as dxf from Blender into gmax and a bit of juggling will get a single texture on. At least it used to.. No need to open UV window in gmax. Drag .dxf mesh into gmax window.

However I have received some very useful posts on this thread as regards using blender itself, and links for a simple reader for pdf. Just over I meg which works fine.

Regarding exporting to .im as detailed using the beta exporter.
I tried it with the 3 textures on 3 seperated meshes in the castles with a seperate material colour on each. These work fine with no problem but MUST have auto-create 1 which ccp in tc3 is a fault. Maximum 3 textures in Trainz although exporting to vrml2 I have had 4 as mentioned for castle. Had to loose the cobblestone floor as quite liked that.
The only problem using tc3 is that CCP brings up auto-create 1 as an error which is essential otherwise won't load into surveyor.
Just tried it again with perch rock beacon I made.
A wooden tripod structure at the mouth of the mersey finallly replaced by the lighthouse in about 1826.

Anyway I left out auto create 1 and does NOT load into Surveyor but no error notice in CCP at all.
I add auto-create 1 and needless to say the cross in CCP to delete it as an error but loads without any problem into surveyor.
I will leave it at that.
This config. below does NOT work using tc3 BUT shows no error.
Add auto-create 1 below the mesh and it works fine in Trainz But with error in CCP using TC3.

Hello John I realise you haven't got a copy as noticed your posts..............
It is just an overall observation as spent a good few hours with it now so time to call a halt on my part anyway...................
It is not necessarily the exporter and could just as easily be ccp but whatever leave it to others now....as for myself quite happy using Blender for my own content. Have about 150 blend files made many similar to what I made in gmax in the earlier years for trainz, plus the new items I am making for future sailsim, but will not be using gmax again....whether I continue making content for trainz again depends on future events but if not can't say I am too concerned...............
