Banner/signiture sizes?

I find the use of the ignore list a great way to stir up some "discussion" on the site.

Site moderation thinks otherwise though.

I am still sitting out 50 infraction points for the use of the ignore list and advertising the use of it. Please take that in consideration before you also get into trouble.

This banner size is a sore point for me.
For years I kept reminding people when they were over the limit in either dimensions or filesize.
Then, after a public discussion started by Auran concerning upping the dimensions to 800x100, I changed mine to that size, and within days I had a warning from a Mod with a bug up his arse (Peter8) who obviously had nothing better to do, and hadn't even read the thread concerning the size change.

It was a contributing factor to me taking a back-seat in the community.
I wouldn't put up with "jobsworths" in real life, why should I on the forums.

It's true that I shouldn't have changed my sig size until it was updated in the CoC page, but when you are surrounded by posts by people with hugely oversize sigs, and filesizes that are more than 10 times what the limit is, then you start to wonder who's steering this ship.

Only yesterday, I saw a banner that was over 750k.
How many warnings has that user had?

There are already many posts in this thread that are breaking the banner size rules, and still no sign of the mods, or of those people changing their banners. :o

If anyone doesn't know how to change banner sizes/filesizes, then I'll be glad to do it for you.

Although to be honest, I don't think Auran could give a proverbial toss.

I just did a little experiment to find out what the bare minimum I could do and just meat the 30k limit on an 800x100 jpg @80 compression. what I could get away with is a solid field, the words (in size 55, and red) "Peter Rocks" with a green squiggle in the back ground; that came to a total of 29.8K; all in all I think if you look at most people's signatures that are at the 800x100 (I haven't yet, I'm hypothesizing) I would think that you would find them to be over the limit.

Peter, my banner is 800x100, is less than 30k and has more than a little squiggle on it.

Again, anyone who doesn't have the necessary software to compress images whilst retaining quality, post the image here and I'll sort it out for you.

Actually, its not really, its about 30.36kb (31092bytes / 1024 = amount in KB).
When they mean 30kb, I think they mean 30*1024 (not 30*1000), which is around 30720bytes Depends if the other .36kb matters to Auran or not, because you are never likely to get exactly 30kb in computing.

Wasn't refering to your sig a all :wave:

Since you checked out titaniclovers you already know, but any way you cut it 175kb cannot = 30kb :p
 
I have had countless saying that my sig was too big. I have checked until this point at the 800 by 100. It fits.

I never knew how to check file size. There for I assumed it was ok. I never have gotten an infraction nor a PM from any of the mods about my sig.

Still that sig is slightly outdated. It is time to update anyway.

Right click the image, then click properties in IE/FF/Opera (I think)
If you are a smug so and so with a mac (not me! ;) ), hold down ctrl then click on the image and click properties.

Ahh, life with only one mouse button.

Fellow posters,

I have been following this thread, and I really don't give a rat's behind if member 'a' has a sig that takes up the whole screen, or member 'b' has one that needs it to be enlarged to read it !
I have sigs turned 'off', and enjoy an uncluttered view of only what the poster needs to convey.
In my opinion, more than 90% of the sigs are 'eyesores' !

My thoughts ---DLR
 
Auran should just get rid of the Sig's and banners since we have people crying about everybody's else's Sig size now and maybe we won't get a pointless thread like was started here!

Why the insult ? and in fact aren't you doing the same thing by saying Auran should get rid of them !!

This thread was started because some members are fed up with other members breaking the CoC (and not just by a few kb), and Auran doing nothing about it.

I have been around long enough to realize that I can turn off the sig's in my profile, but why should I have to, I have not broken the CoC and I enjoy and appreciate the work and art that is in some of them.

oh, and if you think the thread is pointless, why did you post in it :hehe:

On my Mac (well my work Mac ;)) I can use both a left and right button. The wonders of modern Macs eh! :D
