Bakersfield To San Bernardino

I once had a route I just did a Km every day for about 4 months, then 09 crashed on me and I had a backup, but Trs09 did not work on my computer so when Trs10 came out I was so glad, but my route didn't work, about 100km of track, buildings, textures and signals goodbye

-OUCH! see i dont want that happening to me, well it kinda did but not that distance. i'm going to be smarter this time so i dont loose anything. did a fresh install of 09 and sp4. put all my content back in. started work somewhere else!

nope, sorry. but i do miss working on it tho. i just don't feel a 100% of my effort is going into what i am doing right now on the mojave sub and stuff kept on happening to me. (trainz crash, windows messed up, life, etc.) but now that i am back on track kinda im just not happy with my work! i got to get my self back in gear. i think trainz community needs a very prototypical cajon pass and not a mojave sub right now. i did not get one bad comment on my work so means i guess i was doing something right! then auran took a dump on me :( maybe i should make a poll. cajon sub or mojave sub? either way i think they both need to get done!
-Joe

-i've been thinking of starting cajon sub again. i just need to come up with better textures than i had before! ones that look like cajon more! i dunno.!.!.!.

Heya SoCal,

I really like what I see here, those are some great shots. I hope you still have your files! Keep working on it I say. Maybe change out some of the textures and experiment around with it. Just a suggestion.

You're right it sure would be great to have a prototype route from San Bernardino to Bakersfield! I used to live in SoCal growing up as a kid. So it would be great to run some of these rails.

As for Mojave or Cajon, if that's what you ultimately end up doing, I vote for Cajon first.

:)

-thanks! ya i grew up in the I.E./ San Bernardino and prob. spent a good 23+ years of my life there and i miss it. (might go back this fall. In denver currently) glad you voted for cajon cause so did I lol! i just see it as msts, and railworks, has there versions of cajon but trainz doesn't? and the tehachapi loop has been done by TPR, not prototypically but... so i've taken it upon myself to make my version of cajon pass but try to make it as proto as i can and look realistic aaannnndddd make it so everyone can run it. but running it shouldn't matter a whole lot since i'm building in ts09 now, with its AWESOME built-in draw distance limiter! (being sarcastic)

-i've been experimenting with textures and need some advise. what do u guys think of this?

-based on my utm tiles i think i need to go greener. but is it too blended? (i followed instructions on a website from dmdrake) to many layers? (i think i used 4 or 5) i cant really find a sandy texture to go with it! i need some input so i can make this look as realistic as possible. just trying to make the best base layer so i'll never have to go back and change.
-any advise, kuids, tutorials, words of wisdom, etc. would be appreciated!

Hi socalwb909,

Sorry to hear of your crash, I hope you can get back to where you were and further this time!

As to the paint scheme, leave the hillside the way it is, that's fantastic, dirt... fantastic, rocks.... brilliant! However, your sand does need to be less bright IMO.:)

There is a texture used in TRS2006, not sure if it's in the later versions, but you could download it. I'll need the name....

Great Work again, and Good Luck with your Cajon Sub! Not living in the area (I'm in Australia), I'm not sure which one you should recreate first, I'd go with the one you had started.

Happy Trainzing,;)
Scott

-thanx scott. another vote for cajon!
-ya i still haven't found any sandy type texture to go with the hills yet and its holding me up. but in the end when i do find that lucky texture it will be worth it in the end!

I think it looks great! Perhaps lighten the dark brown up just a tad...but overall it looks great for ground-cover texture.

I think the textures look great, even from such a distance. What really intrigues me is your mountain making skills.
-thanks but tranzdem did all the work for the mountains!
-here's another texture i came up with for the dry riverbed. well its 2 textures to give a variation.

-as for as the rest of the ground textures i like it but the more i look at it, it looks like camouflage. suggestions? these are all dmdrakes calif. textures on the dls. guess i'll keep fiddling til i get it right. (damn texturing sucks to me)

Once again, I think that from such a far away shot, it looks good, and the bottom area looks fine too, unless you are just trying to get some feedback from a local who might be more discerning.

-well i'm technically a local myself tho i dont live there right now. thats why i say it looks like camo, but maybe i am just being to picky. thatnks for your nice comments btw!
