Bakersfield To San Bernardino

they were made for the route. specifically so they could be made to ts2010 standards and increase the draw distance to 5000m. any other spline used there cut the draw distance very badly.

why does this even matter? its not a fence simulator. you seriously think the fences ought to be in short straight sections? REALLY? cmon man

I know I shouldn't buy into this, but it was the stinging sarcasm that got me. Natvander is absolutely right. Wire fences (with so few exceptions it just doesn't matter) are always straight. They have to be straight. The strain on the wire is colossal and a curved wire fence simply falls over sideways in a very short space of time indeed, especially on either wet land or dry sandy land.. In the photo you guys posted on the previous page there are two straight strains. You can SEE the heavy strainer post at the angle. My authority for the above statement? I have a busted back and mangled hands because for far too many years I was the heart and soul of Neerim District Rural Fencing

Do straight fences matter? Yep.

Andy ;)

maybe we are all talking about something different, on the other hand,

its still not a fence simulator
i dont see where the curved fences that started this silly discussion are joe did pretty well i thought placing the end braces on the fences.
splines work that way in trainz anyhow - regardless of real life.

sorry to be up in arms about this, but to me its like saying the models shouldn't be made of polygons because polygons are flat, where round objects are obviously not flat. it comes down to utter nitpicking from where i stand. i mean youd have to have 2 spline points at every tangent, thats just ridiculous, thats why im saying cmon really???

....not that it's not curvy...

 I see your point Dermmy, string-lining is apparent where there are no supports...

And the fencing at the overpass is 3 maybe four wire...with supports & many repairs, like the stringers placed to prevent spreading the wire, bent posts.

What I wanted to point out, is that the owner of the property rarely allows people on his land for insurance reasons(read-lawsuits)...he's had problems with folks not closing gates as they enter/leave. There is no telling what he has modified in the way of protecting his land!

NS37, I know you are a surveyor & understand that railroads have valuation maps, to protect the land they own, I doubt the BNSF wood stand up in court & take anything more than their easement...but yes, others might!...anyway, quit FAILing(touche!) & get back to work!

The Clovis Sub. Straight fence line must be a regional thing.

not really, a fence is to denote a property line or keep livestock from wandering. if your property curves you want to use as much space as possible, especially along a right of way of some kind. you dont make a fence in a straight line because its cheaper. the only straight parts would be between the posts. you risk losing your property if you dont use it for so long, and that counts bits of it that fall outside of a recognizable boundary like a fence.

and since you got me...

Hey take it easy - I made a suggestion; I didn't say "this route looks bad because your fences are curved." And no it's not a fence simulator, nor is it a tree simulator or a road simulator or a power pole simulator. But all these things come together to make a realistic route. I'm sure the creator would like as much 'constructive' criticism as he can get if he's striving to create a realistic route.

Back on topic...I have a question for you Joe. Are you still working the route all the way to San Bernardino across the Cajon Pass? I know at one point you were. But just wondering if the first phase is Bakersfield to Mojave.

Thanks in advance for the reply and keep up the great work!

Great job Joe! I'm sure glad I don't give a flying ___ about fences because otherwise that would sooo ruin he route for me.:p

- This is just bakersfield to mojave, somewhere around 90 miles total give or take. I have some plans for the future but im not saying anything yet!

-...and whats all this talk about fences? dumb! i'll have to agree that its not a fence simulator even though some of you are right, its still a game in the end! I dont have the time or the patients to go back through this whole route to change some fences!

-anyway back on topic! everyone, thanks for the nice comments. here are some more random shots! west and east of tunnel 2:

-oh ya, if theres a place on the route you would like to see, i'd be more than happy to take a screen shot there.

I think if it bothers anyone that much, they can go and use the "break spline" button on all of your fences. I think they look fine, and I honestly don't think I would have ever given them any thought. The route looks great either way.

Thanks for the reply Joe! The route sounds like it will have plenty of stuff to do, so looking forward to that and news of your upcoming project after Mojave Sub is released.

Great pics as always.

hello cool route i whould like to see a train switching at the monlith cement plant THAT WHOULD BE COOL. or mojave were the two lines join up.

That is really some fantastic work you have been doing. The only thing I would like to suggest is that the sky and "good weather fog" would be more of a yellow/ orange haze to give more of the feeling of the desert heat and the smog from Los Angeles. :)

What makes you think we get smog from the LA area up here?

CSX power on a California freight...man would I love to see that! Awesome shots and progress on the route, Joe!

Free or Payware?

Will this be freeware or payware? Probably a silly question I would still buy it even if it isn't freeware. Keep it up!
