Backing up

Hello all,

Seeing as Auran/N3V (or whatever) is removing content that doesn't match TRS2009 standards from the DLS, how can I back up the content I downloaded for TRS2006? If trainz/my computer crashes, I want to be able to re-install/add the content back to TRS2006.

Thankyou, Chris

Hi Chris

As has been explained a number of times, we do not currently have any plans to remove any items build for TRS2006 or older. Our current policy is to only remove items that break the Code of Conduct or Terms and Conditions for uploading. Both of these policies have been in effect since the DLS was created, and removals are rare.

We are looking into a number of avenues for fixing faulty content on the DLS. At this stage, this may include removing items that cannot be fixed. These items also have a high likelihood of not functioning in older editions, or of causing crashes/instability in the older editions. As the majority of items on the DLS are either created for TRS2006 or older, or make use of TRS2006 and older assets, it is not feasible to remove items unless necessary, at least at the current time.

In regards to backing up, we generally recommend either using Archives, or the following:

The items installed/created in Trainz (2006+) can be backed up by going into Windows Explorer (or 'my computer'), then navigating to the Trainz install directory. In here you will find a folder called 'local'. This folder contains all items that you have created (layouts, paintshed skins, etc) as well as all downloaded items. Make a backup of this folder to another location on your hard drive (or to another media in this case). Note, this folder can become extremely large depending on the amount of content installed.

To re-install the content, use Content Manager to import the local folder. This may take a long time depending on how much content is in the local folder. Once the import has finished, click on the tab called 'open for edit'. Now press 'ctrl' + 'a' on your keyboard to select all items, then press 'ctrl' + 'm' to commit them. The process of committing the items will take a long time, and it is best to leave it to run overnight.

Thankyou Zec.

You always seem to be the person that hlps me with things like this, and other problems.
