(US$426((AS$558)) for a four car set and £439

(US$669 (AS$875)) for a seven car set, they are way out of the price range for me and many other modellers. They will only be available from the Museum,
At Acton Depot Open weekend – SUNDAY 27 September ONLY. Models available to purchase only – NO collection facilities available for pre–order.
At Covent Garden store (museum) from 11.00 on Friday 2 October for the duration of stock availability.
Online from Museum, dispatch date from the 29th September.

Would love one of these but they are way too expensive.

That's cool, but as you said way out of my league too!

This sadly is the way the real model railroad hobby has gone. I attended the huge Big-E show last January. I did nothing more than walk around and look as the prices my monthly pension in some cases, yet there were people walking out of there with bag loads and box loads of stuff they got at a so-called bargain!

Well, while we are on the topic of Bachman, they are releasing the first Thomas and Friends Narrow Gauge engine, and it's gonna be Skarloey.

Recently ordered a Bachmann Branch-Line LMS 3F 0-6-0 with a Johnson tender in BR black with the late crest off eHatton's. Pre-owned and "bargain" priced, yet still just under $80! But then again, it was in like-new condition. At least I can afford it.

I've always tried to stay away from any of Bachmann's Thomas line of models, but those new red branchline four-wheel coaches are quite enticing. As much as I'd like to avoid them, those red coaches, along with "Emily's coaches" and maybe a Henrietta or two are as close as I'll get to an affordable light railway operation in OO without having to spend a ton on pricey kits or altering existing models. Hornby's four-wheelers are a bit too chunky, in my opinion. Preferably, I'd like to repaint and detail the Thomas line coaches.

I know some of the proceeds from this are going to an LT heritage-related charity, but frankly £280 for a smallish four-car EMU is ridiculous and inexcusable. Especially as it's only available for such a limited time, and only at one place! What a wierd way to sell a product, I seriously doubt Bachmann will make a profit on this given that LT modelling is a niche market.

Speaking of the Thomas stuff. They had a nice "bargain" starter sets at the Big-E show. These started at $100 for a locomotive, no track or anything else. The simple loop and 4-cars started at $499! The dealer had a complete setup that attracted a crowd of people with kids, of course. There was a big Lexan panel around the layout to keep the fingers off, I wonder why!

I guess even the stuff that attracts kids is not meant for them anymore either, or at least for most kids unless they come from a rich family.

Compare this to Japanese N Gauge. You can get a brand new loco from Amazon UK for under £50, and a four car shinkansen for £60. I might do a Japanese layout at some point, not my primary interest but wouldn't use up the same amount of space and money that a OO Gauge one would...

You'll be very please with the quality too. The Kato N-gauge trains are made very well and run very smoothly even at very slow speeds.
