@matt, adaminaby, bet you that woke up the giant trout, have you thought of doing a spur into old adaminaby? all you would need is a snorkel

Looked at that, and my first reaction was 'What are you on about???'

A quick search led me to this passage on Wikipedia:
The most momentous episode in the town's history, came with the construction of the vast network of tunnels and dams of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme, which began at Adaminaby in 1949.[10] A lake nine times the volume of Sydney Harbour eventually flooded the valley in which the original townsite lay. A prolonged drought saw the ruins of the old township begin to resurface in April 2007,[11][12] attracting the attention of global media - and even comparisons to the mythical city of Atlantis.
Interesting; I had no idea about that; I was just scouting Google Earth for place names in the Cooma area, and Adaminaby caught my eye.

I've learned something today; how about that!

Matt.

Here are a few shots of Oaklands. They're shoddy, I know, and I didn't hit F5 to remove the HUD, but it's just to give you an idea of the layout of Oaklands.

This is modelled off the diagram of Oaklands in 1943. Oaklands was home to a military storage facility. It was a good place to assist the war effort, being well hidden from the enemy and connections to the NSWGR and VR. I haven't modelled the military siding, but I'm about to start.

The main yard consisted of a loading ramp, S095 silo, G3 goods shed, cattle trucking yards, two 20,000 bag grain sheds, and a 250ft platform (eventually shorted to 210ft).

This pic shows the Yarrawonga (Victorian) end of the yard. The top right hand corner tracks are the SG (closest) and BG lines to the Commonwealth Sidings inside the military facility. The S095 silos stand next to a 20,000 bag grain shed (I've never actually seen one) on a DG siding. The G3 goods shed is just left of the silos and is right in front of another 20,000 bag grain shed (where the K is with the rake of loaded GYs). A five ton NSWGR crane sits above the IT wagon and KMQ flat. The empty GYs sit on the VR run around, the NSWGR run around being the next siding to the left.

This image shows the The Rock end of Oaklands. Off to the top right is a small NSWGR engine depot with a turntable, carriage shed, engine shed, ashpit and coal saithes. The carriage shed was removed in 1945. Across from this engine shed, was a DG cattle trucking yard (where the BSV's are). The loading ramp (where the S trucks are) is on the same DG track, which extends to the end of the grain shed. The loop line for the silos and the other grain shed is off to the left.

This is a close view of the engine shed. 5308 is simmering awaiting K103 to finish it's shunting so it may resume it's duties. Shunting a mix of BG and SG wagons wasn't allowed, for obvious reasons.

Now, a closer view of a bit of trackwork. I did model DG properly (I think), it isn't possible to run onto BG track with an SG loco without derailing, so I think I've done well. Zec's VR track is top stuff!

Well, that's about all I've got.
Great shots everyone, any criticisms, comments or death threats allowed.:hehe:

Nice shots Zec.... the texture on the T, is that textured dirt or a noisy normal map?

David

It's a bit of a mix.

The 'noise' is actually a baked ambient-occlussion map, creating using the 'render to texture' function in 3DSMax, and placed over the main texture using the 'multiply' filter in photoshop.

The model is also weathered using various brushes in photoshop (although this one is fairly 'simplistic' weathering). The normals map is a 'straight' normals map, no noise. It was my first release with a normals map if I remember right...

Only been putting noise into the normals map since the F class 2-4-2 (too many flat/smooth surfaces), and even then not all items have it.

The open wagons behind the T's use somewhat better texture/etc... Normals map (which includes some specific 'weathering' shapes, such as large rust spots, etc), specular map (which includes a lot of the weathering to break the lighting up), and the env map (which includes little to no 'weathering', found it wasn't really that noticeable in this case, as the levels are fairly low).

Matt, you've really kicked it up a notch with your landscaping and texturing! Putting aside all the nice models you've used, and just looking purely at the landscape shapes and the textures used, some damned fine work there!

matt those screenies just scream australian
keep up the good work
just a tip,if you got it
move the slider in nvida control panel to quality and all those jagged edges will smooth out

Uhh, wow, thanks guys.:D Much appreciate the compliments.

Just one problem, though...

The route isn't actually mine.:hehe: It's an old one of Colhad's; called Ozzie06, built for 2006. All I've done with it is replace the old billboard trees with Pofig's speed trees.

Still, I'm sure the original creator appreciates your compliments.
