Australian screenshots

If indeed Shane_Clubb is referring to Ryan McC's Brisbane route, it will benefit him to know that Ryan, being an employee of QR, has legal obligations to keep this route to himself as long as he is employed with them. Something to do with security I think.:o

As for my project... I'm working out a few bugs and fixing up some errors, but it will take time. Having a slow game, 1104 content updates and no FCT isn't helpful. But I will struggle on.

Fear not, I shall post screenshots in due course.

Happy Trainzing,;)
Scott.

Deadly, What part of the CityRail network are you building? I assume it involves Beverly Hills, and the East Hills Line?
I'm building between Glenlee (just south of Macarthur) to Cabramatta Junction and Wolli Creek. I've been extending bits every now and then as the project has progressed (e.g. Holsworthy to Turrella, then Turrella to Wolli Creek).

Hi everyone,

Great screenshots here. I have been away on holidays, Plus other distractions.

Really enjoying all the screen shots.

3801

When 3801 got her new boiler it seems it was bigger than the old one and a few mods were made so that it would fit.
38101.jpg

All it needs now is a Candy repaint

It'll be a long time untill we see her operating. The boiler's in a pretty bad state haha

Steam in NSW in generally in a bad state.

3801 - out of action - New Boiler problems
3830 - at Thirlmere, cant be repaired quicker due to PHM staff unable to get to Thirlmere.
5917 - Out of action - i'm unaware of the problem

3642 - failed yesterday on the Blue Mountains Flyer at Lawson

Bearcat,

Why would you do that to such a lovely locomotive. :'(

Well that bit of photoshopping was not done by me, it was in fact done by another fourm member who is no fan of, as he calls it, the big green slug.

If your been following this fourm you would know thats rather tame compaired to other things that I have done to poor 3801,3802,3803,3804,3805 or what ever number she really is.

I don't mean to drag this thread off topic, but really, one can't let rubbish stand unchallenged...

Steam in NSW in generally in a bad state.

By all means, make a sweeping blanket statement. Going from your lack of information, I assume you do little to help any of these organisations, either financially or on a voluntary capacity? Get a bit bored chasing the same locomotives around with your camera?

3801 - out of action - New Boiler problems

Yes, this is a shame, but as this is being funded by the Office of Rail Heritage, I fail to see how the locomotive would be any better off without all the external funding. Will the boiler get fixed, or won't it? Who knows, but the locomotive has the best chance the way it is right now, with the ORH and RTM trying to fix the problems.

3830 - at Thirlmere, cant be repaired quicker due to PHM staff unable to get to Thirlmere.

Nevermind that the PHM staff have worked tirelessly returning 3265 to service, that'd be a positive thing to say - better to bash on the delay returning 3830 to service!

5917 - Out of action - i'm unaware of the problem

When undergoing a mechanical overhaul, a large amount of asbestos was found that needs to be removed properly. This takes a lot of time and a LOT of money. You happen to be opening your wallet, at all?

3642 - failed yesterday on the Blue Mountains Flyer at Lawson

I'm sure you've never heard of a car breaking down at all. Things happen, we're talking about steam locomotives that are many decades old, and continue to work long after all of their classmates were scrapped. They are maintained by a small workforce using volunteers, donations and limited reasources. The skills to maintain these locomotives are dying because they are not readily avaliable in the commercial world anymore - and nobody has time to learn what is really a second job. So yeah, these things will happen, and will continue to happen.

You've conveniently ignored 3526, which has had a number of improvements made to it over the summer to enable it to run more tours. Never mind that ARHS ACT is making great strides restoring 6029, and they continue to run tours with 3016, a fantastic little locomotive. I've already mentioned 3265, but LVR continues to run tours with 3237, including shuttles in places that have not seen steam since it went out of service (or the once-a-decade-visit-from-3801). Ignore 2705 which continues to provide shuttle services on the Thirlmere loop line, pleasing families on regular occasions. Don't forget Marjorie and SMR30 up at Richmond Vale, or the two SMR 10 Class at East Greta. I'd say steam in NSW is in a pretty good condition considering the challenges that the groups out there face.

By all means though, continue to whinge, but until you put your hand in your pocket and see some of the expenses and troubles that these operators continue to face (and overcome), you will never see how good we have it. I regularily take my hat off to those hardworking men and women that keep heritage trains running so selfish gits like us can go for a ride on occasion.

It's not the only boiler. 'Tornado's boiler was only in use for just over a year and it was a dud. Unlike 3801's case though the NRM had a all the time and equipment to get the job done and it was returned in little over 4 months IIRC.

hi jake

"That Victrainz thread will also mention the very recently released DEM only Ipswich route, including the new Richlands branch. Using the various separate DEMs in that storage folder you can do QLD from the steam era Tweed Heads / Coolangatta area north to Gympie and west to Ipswich and the Brisbane Valley line etc."

i was trying to see what the had on the other side of ipswich
brisbane valley line
line to tooowoobma

and if possible i was trying to get info for the line that never was
for the world of me i cant remember the name and i cant find the stuff that i had downloaded for it

it was supposed to be built past gatton and up the mountain via the back parts

also looking for the canungra tramway

i have a lot of details, but not exactly where the line ran.

i've been to the tunnel, but cannot work out where it went

thanks

Hi Ron, I see the Victrainz DEM storage folder URL is in the post above by cricketstar http://www.storage.victrainz.com.au/

The "the line that never was"
'Via recta' - the line that never was from

Well I'm quite to the contrary. I think steam or preservation in NSW is on the increase.
6029 is about to make a return once it is fitted out at CFCLA at Goulburn, 3830 will be back by next year to cover for 01' which will be out of action for a while, and even then the boiler challengers boiler challengers are redeemable.

Then there's the infrastructure work that's been carried out to the Large and Thirlmere + rollingstock etc etc

There's even moves afoot to mechanically restore the Cardiff 2-4-0 shunter up at Maitland?!?!

The one thing I want is for all those Beclawat suburban cars to stop being used on long distance tours. haha. I hate those cars no matter how many bums on seats you can get in them.:D
