Australian screenshots

Hi folks,

Some great screen shots as always in the Aussie screen shot forum post :)

One more from me, shot of a 45 class passenger crossing paths with a rail car, whilst a 44 class heads into the local coal mine loading line. (I am hopefully completed this baseboard and now move on to the next one.) This is base board no:17 in this fictional route, with an average time of about 5 hours per board. Trainz is so addictive and a real blast to relax with.

Cheers all, and happy Trainzing.

Cowra - Canowindra rail line no more

Might be of interest to fellow NSW persons, ARTC has started to pull down the 3 timber bridges that were in the main township area of Cowra.

The bridge crossing Lachlan st near the Caravan Park met its maker yesterday. (right side of the the Lachlan river road bridge heading towards Sydney) with the bridge on the left side due to come down as well.

The Brougham St bridge also has a date with the bulldozer.

so cowra station is now isolated, wow it wont take them long to flog the corridor off as prime residential real estate

Hi Jack

Go to a site called Imageshack, upload your screenshot there, copy it & paste it in here. Once you're on the site, it's pretty simple, even I managed it! Good luck. Look forwad to seeing your stuff.

Yes, you can't go wrong with good ol Imagejack shack ..... errrr the water tastes funny all of a sudden.

It's this line you'll want.

Yes it is amazing that part of the now isolated line just happend to run right through a proposed apartment complex.

All the bridges they are removing at present are on the Canowindra Line.

Rail line to Blayney is closed with a big stop block at the Sydney end of Cowra yard just near the Level Crossing

As to the Harden line it all depends on who you talk to ARTC states the line is still open and LVR can use it if they want, and LVR says the line is closed and ARTC wil not let them use it. See December 2009 Rail Digest

There have been some great screenshots over the past week or so, congratulations to all.

A question for anyone, in TrainzLand what would be a reasonable speed to set for various Train Consist. For example, what would be a speed setting for;

Freight Train

Express Train such as the XPT or even Davido's new Countrylink Xplorer EA series

For a "standard" passenger Train such as one using the 600, 700, 900 series Railcars.

Thanks for any help.

Such a shame :( ... I've fond memories of riding on CPH's and trips behind 3026 back in the 1980's out to Canowindra. Ah well... glad I took those opportunities when they presented themselves.

I recall those days, Cowra seemed untouched by time... but "apartments" certainly show how times have changed.

Craig,

Your question is a very valid one, and one I ponder many a time when working on a layout. Currently in NSW, you have three types of speedboard under the new RailCorp system - blue for electric trains (so, CityRail), white for XPT/Xplorers and yellow for all other trains.

Additionally, the speeds the train can go is dependant on the rolling stock. As a rule, modern rolling stock with a code ending in "Y" (eg CQBY thanks to thebigman) are rated for 115km/h running. Your intermodal superfreighters (QRNational/Pacific National etc) will usually run with an all 115km/h rake, to ensure fast speeds. Some wagons are limited to 100 or even 80km/h. Some heritage trains are also limited to 80 or 100km/h to prevent wear on the locomotives/rolling stock.

When setting a VSB, I set a "standard" limit (say 100km/h), the freight limit I set to the same as the "standard" limit, unless it's over 80km/h, in which I put it at 80km/h, and the XPT limit is usually 5-10km higher than the "standard" limit.

For information on wagons and their codes, I refer to this website:

http://www.nswrollingstock.com/nswrollingstock.htm

Especially:

http://www.nswrollingstock.com/roacode.htm

It's not the be all and end all of wagon coding, I have a friend who could write a book on wagons, so vast is his knowledge, but that website is an excellent "base guide" to realism in a fictional game world :).

Train speeds

Seeseeme,

Most goods trains run at a maximum of around 80 K's unless it's intermodal container trains when it's up to 115 K's. Some of the older goods trains ran at a mximum of 65 K's, mainly with four wheel rolling stock and the older bogie stock without roller bearing bogies.

XPT'x can run at up to 160 K's but not in many areas of the state.

Railmotors could run at up to 115 K's like most passenger rolling stock from memory. Endeavours/Explorers were originally allowed to run at up to 150 K's but now have been wound back to the 115 K's the same as suburban and intercity electric trains although from memory the intercity and Endeavour may be allowed to travel at 125 K's.

Hope this helps,

Railwayz
