i've used hay station as a substitute for toowoomba station
i'm still deciding which way to go south or west
toowoomba deviation will be included and all the closed sections as well
it will be a mix of new and old
anyhow i'll keep scrubbing on for now

cheers,
patchy

P.S.bill keep up the good work on your pubs,if you get enough pubs together maybe you could have a pub crawl route with a couple of xxxx's at each

Looking good, some familiar scenery there. Spent many a late winter night at the goods shed waiting for trucks to arrive from Brisbane. Watching the shunters pull loaded qlx's from the swamp and replace them with empties. Toowoomba station would be a fantatstic asset in trainz, quite a challenge. It's such a beautiful building.

A quick question.

On my little EEE-PC 900 I managed to get 34 variations on 3D Eucalypts made, including lods. No configs, as I still have not seriously tested them. I have a new laptop which can run Trainz (finally) so I can test them but am completely unenthused about it all. With Speetree coming out with '10, I feel that my work is wasted.

Is it worthwhile finishing them off, when there is a better solution in the works? With some vague testing and countless hours of work, they really don't look as good as I would like, although I did my best to work within the limits of '09. Despite the silly hours of work I've put into these, it seems pointless if Speedtree takes over.

In a way, I'm starting to feel that I don't care about TRS anymore. I'll be perfectly honest, I don't really like the community we have now. I miss the days of old. And I was always interested in the Trainz thing because of the community. There used to actually be some fun in the community. So I suppose I've turned into a cynical old cod.

Is it really worth finishing and releasing my work for trainz anymore? Or should I just sell my meshes on Turbosquid or something...

I'm just wondering if there's any point, as there is something better for TRS. Speedtree is a wonderful thing, and would be hard to beat.

Any opinions?

I don't mind my work 'wasted'. I'm just wondering if it is worthwhile. If people migrate to 2010, then it seems pointless.

i am so sorry to hear of your loss its never easy to loose one we care about be them family or friend. please accept my condolences your mates are here for you any time.

Ed, you cynical old cod :p
I take it that the speedtree's are either going to be an add on pack (read payware) or built in, if payware then most people will not have them, if built in the the range will be limited, probably to Nth American type tree's, so there is, and always will be, a welcome mat out for anyone that decides to make tree's, especially Australian varieties :D
It really sounds like you need a break from content creation and just run trains for a while, don't burn yourself out mate.

Cheers David

 Hi James
No mater what you make there will all ways be a call for it in Trainz,
I my self love the work you do and it will all ways have a place in my Trainz.
I say release what you have done so far, if no one coments then decide.
And i agree with Pommie :D

patchy, as one of our more frequent contributors, your absence has been noted (even if it was silently) and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Ed

Judging by the publicity shots, we are not getting any Speedtree based Australian trees. My impression of the trees shown is that they are more like caricatures than real trees, I don't like them.

We really need your trees, we also need you on the forum. I agree that it does seem to lack something that existed in the past, difficult to say what it is, possibly the influx of new people that always comes with a new release. New people who look on this as a game, who expect too much and must have it now! This can be annoying, I think that you and I and many others regard it as a hobby.

Stick with us, it will get better.

cynical old cod.

Does this mean you are an ancient fish?

In regards to my last posting, here's a few pics from 1979...

...some things do change, however. No more run-around loop, big platform shelter, steel sleepers.

Hope you enjoyed that.

Ed,

Please don't be discouraged by the imminent release of Speedtree. From what I've seen, there is a distinct lack of Oz trees, and for all it's cost, the end product looks a bit "toy town" to me. The way the trunks flare where they meet the ground is totally exagerated.

I have used your Oz trees in T4 with excellent results, and was looking forward to accessing a T9 version. I have 2 large Oz layouts (T4) that are crying out for conversion to T9, but so far, not a sniff of suitable trees.

I had heard that you were working on T9 Oz trees, and thought you would be the answer to my problems. I am saddened therefore, that you feel so discouraged, but I perfectly understand where you are coming from.

The minute Trainz becomes a chore, it's time for a break (or worse), so I would suggest just sitting back and waiting for Speedtree to be revealed. You will then see it's shorcomings, and maybe decide to produce what Speedtree didn't. It might even be possible to offer your services to Auran to make Oz trees using Speedtree, as only Auran will have access to the program. Just a thought.

Anyway, whatever you decide to do, I wish you all the best, and I'm sure that we would all miss you if you decide to go. (even for a short while ;) )

Cheers

Yeah. It's become a chore. Thankfully I'm off to Morocco for a holiday in a few days. Perhaps after then I might feel refreshed.

Bugger it. I'll get them done, but I'm really only saying that because of the comments on the Speedtree trees looking a bit naf. I sort of agree with that. I certainly aren't 'leaving' the forums, I'm just bored with it all. Nothing happens, and there are too many arrogant kids. Yes. I'm being far too cynical. I just miss the days when you could actually have a laugh on the forums. There's some great folk about, but it just isn't as fun as it was before.

I might just hand over the meshes to my locos and other works (including those trees, although I'll also release the meshes for them after they're finished and tested) and anyone can do what they like with them.

James
