If You ever thought Modeling was hard

Happy B'day Anthoney................
If your like me and always put the hardest till last .....
For years I have been refineing my Gmax skills ....learning new tricks along the way .....I always put off learning Paintshop Pro ...no time I was too busy learning Gmax....well I bit the bullet yesterday I was sick of crap textures on my models ........and decided to create a quality detailed skin for the 1300
and let me tell you its not easy after 10 hours and many mistakes,
I think this is half decent .........now I have to go back and retexture everything :( ......................................................................
The 1300 looks too good now :udrool:
I will start the bogeys this afternoon after work
Enjoy QR Fans............................................

Davido, your rails and textures are filling the empty hole in my Trainz empire. Grazie.

Zec, have you noticed this little glitch with your Z Van? It likes to stand out a bit too much. :hehe:

Yes, that little red smudge in the distance is the Z Van on the back of a goods train!

I told you Zec  15 steps of LOD was overkill :hehe:

I think it's got something to do with the maps he used ;) (going off from what he said about the T Class on the old VT forums...)

Tom :)

i thought i would bring some more colour to the thread, i am trying to convince someone that we need the second golden qr loco, i found this skin lying around dont tell dreddy i found it laying around his place lol.

David (or anyone else who knows how), how do you do the reflective render shot for your Loco's/wagons  ? Can it be done in Gmax or is 3Ds max required? BTW nice screens everyone :D !

Regards,

Matt
Matt, google up Yafray and a thing called YaGmax. You can export a scene from Gmax using YaGmax and SLGrab then render it with Yafray. The reflective floor is just a plane textured with a reflective material.

Jamez, glad the track suits :D

Cheers

Ghosty,
Unless I am wrong the number of that loco was 1281 ? Cleaned a fair amount of dirt off that one over time. (I'm not talking renders here). You'll have to keep a closer eye on him Dredd when he comes over for a brew. No telling what else may walk out the door.:p :p

lenice

yeah i know it was a 1300 class skin i was just hoping someone hint hint nudge nudge might make the 1270 and do 1281. i hope my efforts will work seeing 1461 and 1281 cruising the ipswich line would be a interesting sight.

cheers

Yep, it's to do with normal maps... In TRS04/06/TC1-3 items with normal maps were not hidden by fog. You'll find the same problem is on Rob's C class diesels, and a number of others... Not much I can do about it without removing the normal map, which adds some 3D details to the model without adding extra polygons :)

Wow.
I spend a few days away and look at all this activity. :)

Nice work guy's.

...and congratulations and welcome back Spooney. (I had a little girl 8 months ago) :D :D :'( :udrool:

Zec, you could create a low res LOD mesh without the normal map applied, at that distance nobody can se the detail anyway...that's how I get around the problem.

Hmmm, never thought of that :o

I'll fix the lowest LOD on the Z van, and get that uploaded. That said, I'm not going to be supporting 04-TC3 anymore (well, TC3 maybe for my steamers, but thats it).

You shouldn't need to rebuild stuff from scratch for 09. Although best results for the normal maps come out when you bake them from a 3D mesh, my locos and rolling stock still use the old NVidia plugin to create the normal map. Quicker, gives a reasonable result... The only thing you would need to do really is rename the materials, and re-export them. And make sure the mesh isn't referencing materials that aren't there :)

None of that makes any sense to me, but if you don't mind, I'll keep giving you a nudge if I find something that's abnormal. :p

Perhaps this doesn't happen in 2009, but I've noticed that passengers in the Z van like to stick their backs through the wall, any easy fix to this?

I think I'll just finish what I'm doing for 06 and when the urge to start something new comes along I'll make the jump to 09.

Got this as my desktop wallpaper :)

Yeah, I can fully understand that... Just pointing out that it isn't as bad as some have made out to get an item working in native model. So long as there are no missing textures, no weird material setups, and no errors in the config, and no alpha blending, any item will work fine in TS09 native mode. Looking at your 38 there, it should work perfectly fine in native mode, except maybe the headlight and windows... Oh yes, and the Espec and sound files will be a little iffy, but I spent a weekend running billegulla's A2 class in 09 without any troubles :)

Jamez, the materials stuff was intended for David :)
As for the passengers. The vans are set up for TC3/09 passengers, which are much easier to 'fit'. The old 04-TC2 passengers had all sorts of weird positions, and sizes (aka 'fat australians'), which made it extremely difficult to place them neatly :)

Ok cool, so what you're saying is 'when i get off my arse and buy 2009, i wont have that problem?' :)
