Australian screenshots

Due to a lack of available motive power, we see the not so odd couple of T356-X31 awaiting departure from Merriford with the loaded Qube paper train.

Great screenshots David, Tim, Scott, Tom and Graeme, Keep it up everyone.

Lately, I've been playing around with 3DS Max as well as Sketchup, to see whether I can actually create something. I've been watching tutorial after tutorial with both programs and after several weeks of frustration of scrapping one item after another, I've finally been able to create my first model.

I used the easiest program Sketchup and built a bridge. It's nothing spectacular and not 100% accurate, but it's somewhat similar to the Anzac Bridge at Pyrmont. My timing was wrong and I could have included it on my latest Sydney route.

Now to see if I can do the same with 3DS Max.

Well done Roy, remember that most other 3D programs do not like big assets to render so when using other programs break the asset down if possible as the Sydney Harbour Bridge is about 7 different assets ,,, i would love to learn how to use blender over 3DS Max myself,,,
I wished that there was a site that shows how via video to make assets and set setting in Blender for not just dummies but for complete dummies,,, i would make everything in blender if that was the case.

Thanks Steve,

As you said, good advice! The earlier screenshot showed additional detailing using stuff available on the DLS. So what I actually created using Sketchup is just one asset, as shown below with the detailed one in the background.

With Sketchup, I used RubyTMix to bring it into TANE content manager. If it is too big, it gives a warning so it can be deleted and re-worked.

I'm going to do it again, next time being more accurate and I'll attempt to include the pedestrian walkway and railings. When you think, on a route it is only decorative and trains don't run across it.

Really well done Roy. I wish I was half as talented as you. I'll stick to placing assets that other people have made.
Nice shots everyone.

Thanks Graeme, Talented,.. I'm definitely not! I just wish I was half as talented again, plus a little bit more.

You wouldn't believe just how difficult it is to remember every fiddly thing about these programs,.. so many dead ends just leads to frustration. When you think those 3D animators must have brains like scientists. They are clever. How they do it I just don't know.

I thought I'd try it to create a few models such as a split bridge (bridge kit). One that is split right down the centre, which could be used to fit different road or highway widths.

By the way guys, for anyone building a 'Waterfall to Bondi Junction' route, I spotted a high speed cab ride video, which gives a good idea of the landscape, just pause to grab the image.

Just finished off the basic scenery on Goulburn Murray Lines v3.1, now I just have to do all of the ATLS crossings. Not just in the new part, but over the entire route as SP2HF1 broke a lot of crossings by turning the older ones 45 degrees. I suppose it was time to get rid of those crossings anyway.

Nice set of passenger cars Graeme. I don't recall seeing those ones before.

Good luck with your crossings.

Really nice work all round Graeme. Your attention to detail is second to none.

I notice it's been a bit quiet on this thread lately - maybe everyone's watching the Winter Olympics.

Cheers mate,

I think hostthenpost going down has been a real bummer, was a very easy to use image hosting site.

Great shots Tom and Erik and really good to see ATD site back up and running.
Spent an afternoon doing scenery in Sunshine at the silos on Jamie's route.
