Just need to finish some of the undergear detail and will be ready to start texturing soon.

Keep up the great work everyone!

A few hours later after the loading is complete and the train put together, we see XR553 leading the Apex out of the siding...

Hi all, some really good shots lately and nice new stuff as well. I've been running a lot of NSW lines, mainly Southlines, Cooma - Bombala and Illawarra, while getting the new parts of Goulburn Murray up and running.

Great work David - between you and Tom I think you've just about covered now every livery worn by those beasts (L 268's 'prettyboy' livery being my favourite :D). On that topic though, 268's experimental Westrail livery also had a precursor where the dark blue was mostly substituted for white on the main hood and nose of the locomotive - needless to say the bureaucrats at East Perth Terminal quickly realized that it would be an absolute nightmare to keep clean so 268 was never known to have actually hit the track in it (I've only ever seen a single photograph of it in an old issue of Motive Power magazine in this particular livery variation (all white with dark blue, black and orange bands), and the magazine noted that was only believed to have carried it for less than three months, before the white was substituted for the dark blue.

Another experimental livery several Ls carried was what was known as 'international orange' (although it was more a dark shade of red than orange), back about the time the WAGR changed their name to the Westrail branding in the mid 70s - from my understanding at least 2 Ls were painted in variations of this, possibly more, but don't quote me on that! Ironically this experimental livery was very similar to the Wisconsin Central inspired ATN Access livery several decades later! There was also the so-called 'tickled pink' undercoat livery that many WAGR locomotives were forced to carry during a period in the 70s due to problems at the Midland Workshops paint sheds, but I am unsure if any L classes were so affected (I do know on the standard gauge it affected the K and H classes at least).

Anyway David, you and Tom have really done these magnificent machines justice! Well done! :D

Hey Baz,

I put some VLX's on Victrainz which might improve your shots.... probably...

It's interesting how you numbered the last 3 NP batch ones to 475 as it's also known fact that when a N was out shopped after a collision it'll have those deflectors fitted.

Cheers.

G'day Aaron. Thanks mate appreciate it, need all the help I can get. LOL. I was experimenting and failed dismally. Re the 475, I may be wrong, I think they ran 451 - 475 but I wasn't sure so I picked high numbers assuming it would be the later models that were fitted with them.

Tom those X,s look brilliant mate.

Great shots everyone, good to see.

Cheers Guys, Baz.

Hi everyone
Graeme, Im glad to see someone still getting use from Southlines. Thank you.
I am still playing with it, trying to get it better for Tane.
Also thanks to the ATD crew, great stuff. I will have to get a picture hosting site so I can post a picture of the badly lost ATD Y class that turned up on Southlines this afternoon.
Bye for now,
Tom

The N Class you used was built at Newport Workshops 1950-51 and where numbered 430, 431, 432 and are known as Series 2 N Class, the next batch where built in Britain and numbered 450 to 499 with 10 random ones being sold to SAR and where known as the Series 3 N Class, such a shame Bill didn't make 110-132.

Hi Aaron. Thanks for that mate i've learnt something. There ya go, totally the opposite to what I was thinking. Just have to do a bit more reading I think. Always had a soft spot for the old N and J class, just something about the look of them.

Cheers...

For those that don't know, this was the first signalbox I ever qualified in.
