Australian screenshots

Hi Vinny,

Graffiti wasn't really around in the early V/Line days, only on a few occasions their will be a few wagons with Graffiti, wasn't till after 2002 that Graffiti became more common with rollingstock and locomotives, all V/Line locomotives where either Freight Vic or Freight Aust then, or V/Line Passenger due to privatization.

Theirs a rake of Grain Wagons in North Shore and every single one of them have Graffiti, lol.
Not one was spared.

Cheers.

I knew that too, I am only testing these textures on my current, not yet uploaded creations, as I have these presently installed on my creating TS12 version. I thought that is what I mentioned above (the experimenting and testing). Hence, please look only at the graphics, not on the type of locomotive they are on :hehe:. I can place all these extra graphics anywhere wherever these would suit.

I still would like comments, opinions or criticism or whatever, whether it is worthwhile to pursue such extra work.

Cheers

Gday Vinny,
Like what I see with the G classes. The FA and FV ones look awesome! I like the concept of the graffiti, but not sure if the graphics are correct. Perhaps there are too many tags on it? I would think that a loco would go in relatively quickly to get cleaned up if it got tagged. Perhaps one tag and not the whole side. Just my opinion though.

Hope that helps a little.
Nick

The only things that was common to get Graffiti into the 2000s was the Cement, Phosphite, Grain wagons, along with the Hitachi's and Comengs, locomotives never had a chance to get graffiti as they where either at South Dynon, Geelong Loco Depot, or Ararat.

As to weathering, how about something like this

The front bottom parts of the pilots would get dirty very quick, even when given new paint.

Cheers.

Without a proper map (PSD) the heavy weathering kinda looks strange VB a light dusting would do nicely in its place though i think. Really wish you would map just one model and bake it too see what ya think of the end result one day Vinny but each to their own mate and if your happy with how they are done then so be it, Keep up the great work.
Mick.

You seem to be missing a few ???

All 8 versions of the NSWGR C36 in black with marker lights on
and scripted headboards on as well
IMAGES REMOVED

I have downloaded all the C36s up to date, just need to get the updated driving wheels/cylinders. I still didn't think the pigs had smoke deflectors at all? I thought that the smoke deflectors were a thing that the Commonwealth Railways did when they made their version of the pig. Although, the pig with the lower mounted deflectors reminds me somehow of a Victorian K class.
Oh, would you like my C36 whistle that I made? you can distribute it if you wish, I will be uploading it to my website, because I can't upload to the DLS.

NSWGR ran a few experiments with pigs with smoke deflectors must have not been effective as they were only experiments never went into service.
email me the c36 whistle but it would be best if you put it on the DLS yourself :)

Ok, need to see if I can find some pigs with deflectors.
I would happily put it on the DLS, but the amount of times I've searched for how to put things on the DLS I've either gotton answers that are irrelevant or I get the whole "you can't on a Mac" not sure if its an excuse to not answer or its because its true.

Mick.

What has a PSD map got to do with it? I use TGAs and my idea is NOT to bake or include or paint this on the original texture of the locomotive. It is an OVERLAY which can be merged with any clear/clean painted locomotive of the same class made by the same creator as this overlay is the same shape suiting that particular class. Hence by modifying ONLY the overlay ITSELF, which is MUCH easier to do than to re texture a whole locomotive, one can easily create some small and different extras on such locomotives like rust, dust, grime, graffiti and so on and modify anything to a heart's content ON THE OVERLAY, not on the MAIN MESH for that particular Class. Get it?

I even placed "bullet" holes, bird droppings, cracks in the glass and dirt onto the locomotive's wind screens, AGAIN, ONLY on the overlay which looks very realistic. As said above, I only tried all this out for a couple of hours a couple of days ago while I had that idea, it IS working and once I get the next patch of G Classes uploaded, I will spend MORE time experimenting with this and might even make a tutorial for this. There is nothing worse IMHO to see freshly painted locomotives in Trainz, coming straight from the paint shop with only the numbers on these differing. Wouldn't it be much nicer, should I, say, upload some of these overlays with different features on these with an attachment point provided already, so one can d/load these and sort of modify one's of the same looking installed locomotives (after aliasing with a different KUID) to make these somewhat a little different from the others of the same kind, as it is seen in REAL life on the tracks.

That crude overlay mesh I used in the pictures further above was only 10 polygons in size but one suiting proper the G Class should still be less then 100 polygons, so what is that in the grander scheme of things when the 1st LOD of my G Class is 50K of polygons? Plus making only one extra texture map needed for the overlay as well.

Me thinks this is all very good so far and I presume others are creating such extras already in a similar way. Good for them but I have never seen here someone explaining this before. I, at the very least am willing to explain this and like to pass on what I am finding, which can only benefit the whole Trainz community here.

One problem area I can see, this overlay might interfere with the shadow mesh but I personally NEVER use the shadow mesh and have shadows switched off in Trainz as the dark areas on the locomotives away from the sun are darker and somewhat shaded anyway than the sun lit areas are.

Doesn't that above sound good?

As an afterthought, why not rename this forum the NSWGR_46Class and NSWGR_5910 Screenshot Forum, you boys REALLY clutter up this forum here where and when you could EASILY place answers and further questions and even your chit chat in some of your "edited posts" or use PMs for these. This IS after all a screenshot forum, isn't it? Not meant to antagonize or attack you two, only speaking of my personal observations here.

Cheers

Dear Mr VB please read my post as linked here http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?189-Australian-screenshots&p=1202533#post1202533

Each time over the last 10 years when I have suggest that we need a general Aussie chit chat thread I have been told by all we do not need one as this thread serves this purpose quite well.

From now on I will do my best not to ever reply to any post without including a screen shot.

Thoroughly apologies and will do my best never to discus anything other than screen shots from now on is this area this will include methods of skinning of locos with is surely off topic.
