G'day!

I've started a new Project based on the Pilbara Rail over in WA. Ever since I purchased one of Phil_C's C44-9Ws in Hammersly Iron colours (Which by the way, I haven't received yet though I made the purchase three days ago), I decided to build this:

Not finished, a fully laden Iron Ore train from Panwonika Mine heads towards the massive Iron Ore Processing plant at Port Shetland through the Saltpans. (Couldn't find the appropriate colour for salt, so I opted for Snow instead. :hehe:) That massive machine in the background is called a Bucket-Wheel Loader

Cheers! :)

Just awersome shots, people!! :) - nice to see you posting again Stevo.

Dimi - that version of Tarana-Oberon is a must have!! Suggestion maybe... IF you want to be prototypical. The Oberon line was built during NSWGR's precast concrete era. There is a Pc1 on the DLS for Carlwood and Hazelgrove, and a Pc3 would do nicely for Oberon. Just saying that's all... your call of course.

In a similar vein... away from all the flashy modern day stuff and main line action. It is the late 1950's... short trains, light loads and low speeds on a lightly railed (60lb) rural line constructed during the NSWGR precast concrete era. It's humble beginnings (so go easy!)... 3042 in action with independent FO and CCA cars at the terminus of Bowen Mountain...

.

Forest Runner, you're a saint mate. I was thinking "if only there was a PC1 station shed"! And you answered my prayer! HAHA :)

Have you got a link? Because i can't find it on the DLS using "CP1" or "NSW Station" :(

PS: Your last two photos are beautiful mate. Really has that "1950's" feeling to it, especially with the green pick up truck.
Would love to see more of your work dude.

Hi Dimi - a search on "NSWGR Pc1" in Content Mangler will suffice. The author is "trw1089" - another blast from the past! If I recall correctly, it's on a small platform, but of course submerge the building to ground level. ;)

I think the station environs at Bowen Mountain is coming along ok.
- Granted I need another ground text to mingle in under and around the track (damn indecision on which one!).
- Ground level goods shed? Looks very different, but still weighing up whether or not to retain it.

Have you tried the 'ZecRail commisioned' Ultragrass there, FR? May save your day :)

I've been trying to bring more 'shape' into yards, like you have done there, with curved roads. look a bit more interesting :D

Cheers

Stevo - I've given Zec's DLS freeware ultragrass a go, and it's my first foray into it. It looks good, but I know need to be wary of pummelling frame rates with overdoing vegetation. 3 ultragrass, 2 or 3 FMA splines and a dozen different types of Pofig trees, I think will look ok and remain framerate friendly.

The non-straight track is deliberate - similarly, wanted something different. I've also made the pointwork look a little quirky, but realistic for a rural/pioneer line (based on photos) - basically away from just the traditional straight track with a left or right divergence.

Looking pretty good Ron
I think the choice of track could be better,my opinion any way:)
It will be a nice route to run on when finished, a typical QR Branchline

Cheers,
Patchy

Ron
Looking good, I agree with Patchy in regards to the track. Also in the next few days to a week expect a email from me with something useful that will be able to help you with this map.

Better you driving over that bridge in heavy harry than me Tim - your overhaul is top stuff

Jamie

You may think that, but the loco itself is longer than the bridge so not all the weight is on it at the same time. This way the load is spread evenly, I hope...:hehe:

Where are these steamers available:udrool::udrool::mop:?

On the DLS. The H is by Alex23 (search VR H class) and the R is by the late Billegulla (VR R class 09)

hi mates

done the screens late last night after missy was finally asleep

still cannot find 3'6 track . i cant download from the Russian site and the dls shows nil

its very weird

i can find bridge track in 3'6 on the black , but that's all

thanks patchy, ghosty

the town of boonah will be done in bits, just like the missing grass around the tracks and roads

still haven't found anything that's low poly and good enough
cheers
ron

Thanks Stevo - advice taken. An additional ultragrass to add variety and break it up a bit.

Also switched out the old grey texture and track (what on earthing was I thinking!?!?) to something more "earthy" with shubbery. Man, how useful is that "replace assets" function.

Like Ron, I am working QR on standard gauge. I found the Russian stuff is heavy / slow on the frame rate as we don't have the latest computer. Therefore I am doing my QR South Coast Tweed Heads Coolangatta line in standard gauge using the default Trainz 2012 "concrete 1t" track as the default "concrete 1t" track allows me friendlier frame rates.

Track gauge is a very minor matter to me as I am more concerned with the historical accuracy of the local geography. That explains why I have spent a lot of time and money in my research of that QR South Coast historical material I have make available for download by others. I worry more about the route's history and less about the rail/sleepers gauge itself. I know that means concrete track in an 1880s to 1960s route but I will enjoy the geographic accuracy and not notice the track. I only notice the track in any route I have downloaded if the points etc don't work and the similar attitude for signals. Same for the great gauge debate at model train shows ie N scale or HO or HOn3.5 or S or Sn3.5 scale or O scale etc; all the same to me just so long as it runs trains.

That's strange, I've found plenty of 3'6" track on the DLS easily enough (the Black Pages), simply by typing 'QR' or 'narrow gauge' under 'Title' or 'Description' - firstly, there's the 'QR SGL' narrow gauge track in both clean and overgrown forms, in both high and low poly versions and varying spline lengths by chuffbuff (too many to list so just search the DLS under his name and should find them easily).

Then there's the new 'QR 3' 6" gauge track 09' by alby6 in normal and 'suburban' versions: KUID2:72882:1080:1 and KUID2:72882:1086:2

Elvenor also did a range of 3'6" track as well.

Finally, there's also Mike10's 'MB' range of track in 42" gauge including dual gauge track with other gauges.

Failing that, there is also the NZR Narrow Gauge track pack available on Trainzone for download too: http://www.trainzone.co.nz/index.htm

Hopefully this has helped Ron. :)

I have noticed that with two maps of mine its amazing the change of frame rates when i changed a few items out and put newer ones in. I use the Russian track i have used the fender849 Track as well on the new and improved computer and the old one. I found that sometimes its not all the track that effects the FR. sometimes its old buildings or old trees built for other versions or sometimes its items riddled with errors. i am not sure what my frame rates are now but they are much better when i used the method of updating error ridden items and older style trees and went away from the older tracks.

Thanks Scott for that advice. Today was the first time this year I actually worked on my trainz QR SCL route. I just inspected all areas to see that they match my latest research. Found one street that did not exist in the steam era but will decide that later.

Not sure how others feel but I find the more I strive for historical accuracy the slower I get and the more I get caught up in "will I or won't I" type decisions! Should I make a certain hill the correct height or not, even though it is in the background and does not change the track gradient?? Our relatives has lived on parts of that same Tweed/Coolangatta hill for the past 100 years so it has a bit of importance to us, thus the attempted accuracy. That is also the reason I have become a bit obsessive with this particular route!!

Cheers

Forest Runner, fantastic shots mate. Bowen Mountain looks like a very detailed layout. I love the platform and the choice of rails (with the less ballast) used in those shots. Very captivating.
You've inspired me to take a few more photos today so here are a few more from Tarana to Oberon TS12:
