Australian screenshots

It's been a while since I have posted anything.

When it comes to layouts I don't know how many I have started and then deleted because I just hadn't done anything with them or I felt that the layouts were not up to scratch with what others were doing or met my own expectations. I have one layout which I started a few years back after getting the dem data from Jerker, and haven't touched for quite a while is the route from Orange through to Parkes. One of the reasons was that I just couldn't get motivated or have the patience to sit there for a few hours to do a few baseboards.

Living in the outback of Western Australia, I just can't pack up and go to locations along the line on a weekend to photograph them, to get the inspiration back. And with the current job I have, sometimes I am finding that I am working 10-12 hour days seven days a week. When I eventually get time off, I can't take my computer with me, and I tend to use that time to catch up with family, especially when the majority of them live in Sydney or Newcastle.

Regards,
Warren.

this is a "Trainz", an all Australian developement, that gets its best returns from Russia, China and Hungary.Rod

Think of all the foreign currency coming in to Australia from those countries you listed plus the USA and UK/Europe.

Ho Ho Ho!! Well NV3 must think about it :hehe:
But in the short term it makes little difference to Australia being part of Trainz again ;)
See some of us sit and tap away at our keyboards.
Some build stuff in 3D.
Some make maps.
Some create dem data maps.
Some actually run trains on Trainz Imagine!! :hehe:
Some just make screenshots to show off on Australian Screen shots Forum :)
And others just remain dissapointed with Auran for not satisfying the gripes our creators are having with them, and have a little bitch (or a big one) in the screenshots forum, which is terribly off topic :(
Cheers

I just got a newsletter about trs2012, very glittzy, but frankly I'm not impressed with this limited offer for two reasons;
1/ it is clearly aimed at the northern hemisphere, as there is not a mention of anything Australian or New Zealand.
2/ with the australian screenies thread being one of the largest, it's logical that there is a vibrant community behind it. I dont like being ignored. It appears to me that since, at least trs 06, there has been no new Australian content, be it scenery maps or rollingstock released that was made by auran. It is all privately made.

So having said that, I dont see any value there at all

cheers

Pete - I'm in the same boat. I don't like to "attack" N3V for the sake of it like some users across the forums seem to do (nobody from this thread that I can think of), people that seem to have the attitude of "us vs them".

It's a simple business decision - they are not offering me anything within the new product that would encourage me to upgrade, and the possible imcompatabilites with models that are working fine in TS:2010 means that I will avoid the financial outlay and the stress. TS:2010 is a fantastic product that I get a lot of enjoyment out of, and I will continue to do so. Unless folks like Pete (above) or Davido begin creating models for a version above TS:2010 that is not backwards compatible, I won't feel inclined to upgrade.

Yes, the graphics are better, the trees are nicer, and I'm sure the game is just better to play - I've noticed improvements in every version from my first game, which was 2004. I just don't see any reason for me personally to upgrade.

I do feel like the Australian community has been cut out - not on purpose, but we've been "left behind" because our creators create 'for the community', supporting versions like 2004 or 2006. There's nothing wrong with that, but the message from up top seems to be that because they don't support those versions, they are not allowing older content to be uploaded to the DLS - this in turn starts removing new content from the DLS, which is them offputting to new customers "out of the box", who have to hunt for content - one of the massive selling points of the Trainz franchise is that of the download station. It's a huge advantage over games where you have to PAY for expansion packs.

Finally, the improvements to the "basic" models are very nice - in cab. The external 44 class, 48 class models are still very lacking in detail, although the cab of the 48 is greatly improved, and I do hope that some of the content creators out there consider using "new" default cabs for their models.

I'm not having a tantrum and "walking away" from the franchise, or stubbornly refusing to buy new versions of the games unless I get what I want - I won't be buying it, but I won't be walking away from the possibility of an upgraded version in the future. Even if the content creators we know and love (and depend on) start selling their models for pennys to the dollar simply to help support future software purchases, I'm fine with that. Anything is better than losing models to history because they are unable to or unwilling to go back and update an older model.

That's just my opinion, anyway.

I agree whole heartedly with the sentiments of others, that this TRS2012 is just a push for revenue (which I can understand), but why neglect we southern-hemisphere people? I mean, come on, the world does NOT end at the southern-most border of the northern hemisphere, so why no content of any sort, for we here? I'm sorry N3V, you had me as an interested purchaser when I first heard of the 'new' TRS2012, but with no new Australian or similar content, I'll keep my hard won money until something better comes along....

Loved all the screen shots as they bought back memories ;)

The one of the PA hospital's coal dump reminded me that the coal came from the Ipswich region's coal field so anyone wanting a real traffic flow can use that one; in four wheel hoppers no less! The sawmill in the middle between the Gabba line and the Park Rd / Dutton Park line included drying kilns. These were there long after the sawmill disppeared.

I wouldn't buy the latest and greatest version for the content.
It's the features that would have me spending up ....like optional headlights for AI trains :(

K103 leads an A2 on a down, empty, coal train. Although run as an empty coal train, it appears that some I wagons have actually been used to transport some freight down to the mines in South Gippsland.

Almost in Koo-Wee-Rup, we see the train crossing the drainage channels, viewed from the nearby road bridge.

Trying to capture the essence of an era long since gone has not been easy. The limited help that has come my way has been appreciated, it has helped me fill in the gaps. The positive comments have shown i must be doing something right. And to the Gimme pigs got to wait a little longer its not quite ready.

Those NRs look good. Just need some dirt to make look just right.

A silly question as I know it has been answered somewhere on the forum before but the search feature cannot find it.

What is the standard Rail Gauge for NSW, QLD, and VIC please.

Another question, is there a standard distance between dual tracks in each state?

Thanks for any help.

Zec,

Or is it my old eye's
