Down Healesville Goods - Pt1

Hi All
Work has been progressing on the Healesville Route (V2 with extension). I added some 'final' touches (for the now) to the section from Yering to Coldstream (actually just past Coldstream really). This will be cleaned up heaps before release, I hope...

Today I grabbed some pics of a goods train from Blacks Siding (just outside of Coldstream) through to Healesville, plus some more.

The first pic of the day shows A2 971 roaring up grade from Lilydale towards Blacks Siding.

A few minutes later, the A2 is seen coasting to a stop to pickup some QN ballast hoppers from Blacks Siding.

Having run through the look, the A2 is seen coupling to the ballast hoppers, which will be taken to Healesville.

Now with a much heavier train, the A2 is working hard as it roars into Coldstream yard. Just visible in the background is the quarry where the QN wagons were picked up.

A2 971 is really working to get the train up to speed as it passes the station at Coldstream.

Having made good time from Coldstream, the train is seen working through Yering.

A little way north of Yering, the line curves off to cross over the Yarra River flood plain. A2 971 is seen coasting along the embankment as it enters the flood plain.

Further north, the driver takes it easy across the first of two longer bridges. When built, the multiple bridges across the flood plain consisted of only one bridge that stretched for approximately 1 mile. Sections of this were eventually filled in, creating a number of shorter bridges.

Having negotiated the first bridge, the driver put a little more power on over the embankment to keep the train moving at a steady speed.

Continued in next post.

Down Healesville Goods - Pt2

Now on the second (and larger) of the two 'long' bridges, the A2 is making easy work with the train.

After a short stop at Yarra Glen for Safeworking, the train is seen departing for Healesville.

A short distance further, the train is seen passing the park and football oval.

Although most of the bridges on the Healesville line at wood, a number of bridges at Yarra Glen are steel bridges with brick pylons. In this case, I've used jerker's new (unreleased) concrete bridges.

Now about halfway between Yarra Glen and Tarrawarra, the A2 drifts down hill and across one of the many creeks in the area.

Now only a few hundred meters out of Tarrawarra, the train coasts across a small wooden bridge/culvert.

Having passed through Tarrawarra, the train runs across the Tarrawarra straight on an embankment, then climbs the grade through Pine Tree Cutting (one of two on the line). Here we see A2 971 working up the grade into the cutting.

Now working extremely hard, the A2 climbs it's way to the Tunnel Hill tunnel. The climb is extremely taxing on most locomotives, and is made worse by the 30MPH curve at the bottom of the grade.

Now clear of the tunnel, and on the down hill grade, the A2 coasts across the 'Devils Bend' embankment, amongst a large number of trees.

Continued in next post.

Down Healesville Goods - Pt3 + Ballast Run

Having worked it's way East from the tunnel, the train is seen arriving into Healesville yard past a string of IT wagons. J541 is also seen sitting in the loco shed, being prepared for the morning's Up pass.

Having completed shunting, and assembling the ballast train, the A2 has been turned, by hand, on the 70ft turntable to prepare it for the ballast run.

Now coupled to the ballast train, the A2 prepares to depart.

A short distance out of Healesville is the only road over rail bridge on the line, which carries Donovans Road over the line.

Now far beyond Donovans Road, and only about 1-2KM from Healesville, the train pulls up at the beginning of the unballasted section of track. After discussing the work with the Ways and Works team, the loco will slowly pull the train forward, allowing ballast to be dropped by the W&W team.

As the loco slowly crawls forward, the ballast is dropped onto the track. Although there is a ballast plow in the train, the ballast will still need to be packed by hand after the train has gone.

Having covered a some of the section, the final hopper drops it's load of ballast, whilst the N ballast plow is used to smooth the top of the ballast.

Having unloaded the entire train, the A2 is seen propelling the train back to Healesville. The wagons will be taken back to Blacks Siding as part of the afternoon Up goods.

Having run into the shed, A2 971 sits next to J541 whilst the crew take a well earned break.

Hope you enjoyed them.

Bit worried about your controller there patchy. Not much separation between those trains. :hehe: Keep up the good work

Good on you, Zec. About time there was something from the South.

Nice route, though the track work looks far too good for a VR branch line!

Will the be on the DLS as they are of not much use to me on a route unless they can be down loaded by route users

I understand your point, and I do make a 'light' version freeware to avoid missing KUID's.

But as long as there is payware you will always have this issue..............

Sure. Falcon have got access to the Speedtree library and the trees look great and I think we will see more nice trees coming.

These days I am working to get FREEWARE stuff avaliable at my website. The same content will be uploaded to DLS. I have been in the 'thinking BOX' for some weeks, I have now found a decent way I believe surve both interest.

The FREEWARE stuff will have lo-res pics and some less features, but I need the correct 'balance' between ppl wanting to buy the new stuff and at the same time not make the FREEWARE useless.

During a day or two, the Australian trees will be available as FREEWARE with some restrictions. I will post an update when they will be available.

The freeware stuff will always be available from my webshop in case DLS problems.

So in the end it's up to the user to choose what he wants.

with these you will be able to run several NSW mail trains eg Coonamble or North Coast mail trains.

BFX first class, the only difference between this and second class is one less compartment and arm rests
