Australian screenshots

Hi All,
Some very nice screenshots lately
Just a tease,I'm currently engaged in doing a version of QR Newstead Branch circa 1960's
This is a stand alone route from Bowen Hills to Tenneriffe and Newstead Wharves
I got to give a big thanks to Petan for supplying track diagrams and Willem2 for making some key buildings for this route

That's some nice art there, Patchy. Awesome shots, mate!!

Just a quick shot of the tail end of a grain train passing over a motorway undergoing roadworks on a section of my route I'm working on atm:
danielches201210270015.jpg

I'm also trying to set up a Limestone mine/quarry on my route, but I'm having a bit of difficulty locating related Australian rolling stock in Trainz.
Does anybody know if there are any Trainz limestone hoppers out there?
From some Google 'ing that I've done, it seems that a number of the NSW limestone hoppers were actually modified coal hoppers. Would it be reasonably realistic for me to just use some of the existing coal hoppers to haul limestone?
Thanks anybody who can help. :-)

A very impressive looking screenshot, that!

I too have had the same idea you've had, to have a limestone quarry - cement works chain on a layout to permit the transport of limestone in and cement out, and I too have had the same issue of rolling stock! I've observed and photographed a number of items of rolling stock on limestone trains, so perhaps these may assist you:

NHFH hoppers are ex 100t coal hoppers. They were previously a 3-pack (3 wagons permanently coupled), but recently they seem to be marshalled into 2-pack type consists, so the six wagons so converted are now three pairs of wagons used on the train. These hoppers are used on the Port Kembla limestone traffic from Medway/Marulan South Quarry.

The NHFH hoppers are used alongisde the RHEH hooppers on the same service - these are NOT ex coal hoppers though, as I understand it they were purchased by National Rail specifically for limestone traffic, a role they continue in today, again running to Port Kembla.

NPPF hoppers (sorry I don't have a better photo, I'll have to go looking on the hard drive) are ex NHAF coal hoppers, initially converted for BHP limestone traffic, now used exclusively between Berrima Junction and Marulan/Medway on the "OMYA" rake (OMYA is a building supply company at Berrima Junction).

NPZH and NPJH are ex CHS/NHCF hoppers, initially built for Hunter Valley coal traffic, but now used on limestone traffic between Blue Circle Berrima and Marulan/Medway.

That said, even though there are no specific "coal hoppers" avaliable for Trainz that could be used in a limestone capacity, I'm sure you could get away with using the NHVF hoppers, they're pretty similar and would be a suitable stand-in.

Hope that helps!

The Black Tank Part One

Hello Everyone,

Just something I have been working on for a while, and work has only resumed recently due to be being a little under the weather.

Background. - QRIG -

http://www.qrig.org/motive-power/locomotives/steam/6d17-later-d17-class

These superheated engines were built to assist the 6D16 class with increasing suburban traffic. They were restricted to the Brisbane suburban area with boundaries of Ipswich, Ferny Grove, Pinkenba, Shorncliffe, Petrie, Kingston and Lota. This area was later extended beyond Ipswich to Grandchester. Initially, all were attached to Mayne depot but later several were transferred to Wooloongabba.
Cylinder and steam chest castings are identical to C17 Class. The ’6′ was dropped from the classification in 1937. The engines were often unofficially referred to as ‘black tanks’ after the introduction of the DD17 class. Engines constructed in 1937 had boilers with a pressure of 170psi. Earlier engines were altered to that pressure as they passed through workshops. A wooden crate was fixed to the centre of the bunker to slightly increase the coal capacity from the original 3 tons.

It was intended to fit roller bearings to all engines constructed after 1937, (N°853 to N° 857, N°882 to N°886) however these bearings became difficult to obtain due to the war and only N°853 to N°857 were fitted with them. Engines of this class were some of the last to receive electric headlights due to them being restricted to running in the Brisbane suburban area. Fitting of electric headlights commenced in 1951.

Increasing numbers of diesels saw them displaced from suburban passenger trains. Those engines attached to Wooloongabba depot immediately prior to its closure were the last to be employed on such trains.

N°53 and N°75 were the last two members of class in service and were written off in December 1968.

Model: Queensland Railways D17 4-6-4T Tank, in original condition prior to fitting of Electric Lighting from 1924 to 1950
QRD17OriginalCondition.jpg

The model, includes custom cab taken from photograpghs of the current preserved QR D17 268, Capella. The entire mesh is built from scratch, with only minor componets that has been included from my other models. When released it will include footplate figures, autonumbering with random selection, custom whistle enginesound and steam effects. I am currently working on including my destination textures into the model to make it prototypical of the actual locomotive when in service.

P.S Watch out for Part Two :D

With Kindest Regards

Thats an amazing looking map mate, there certainly are some talented modellers when it comes to making Great QR maps. Feel free to sling me a copy if you need a tester and it will also answer the question some will have will it fit in with my work.
Speaking of which it is progressing well and as it has been seen seems to have the right feel of the era. i have a few items i am downloading to update them once they are done those few i have contacted and a couple of others i have yet to ask will find a nice little present in their inboxes. patchy sling me an email i have something for you that you might like to play around with.

Thanks for the help Raichase, I'll just use the NHVF hoppers for now, and I guess fingers crossed that sometime in the future someone will create some NSW limestone hoppers.
And now a few more shots:

Those particular trains over the coat hanger suggests the main north through Eastwood was closed at that time.

Re this Trainz version of the Sydney harbour Bridge; I really think we have just found one of those items that is so good it will become a "Benchmark" against which other items will be judged!

Fantastic shots Patchy! Keep teasing, it looks great. Yep I have to agree, I owe everything to Bill for making outstanding QR content for our routes.

Just a quick one from me; a few Queensland Railways DAS & Converted DAV Carriages. I have still have some minor things to complete, such as to correct the distorted signage on the DAS Carriage. Both are currently sunbaking in the yards at Brooloo as they currently await further restoration by the staff.

@Falcon,
I have reskined that RM to its correct colours, as it was in the 1950's with the dark maroon with white stripes, I will give you a copy when I see you.
