I paid my $9.95US. Finally found the NOT obvious way to Activate my ticket. Went to Download Station and saw that I had "First Class" access. Opened the Content Manager and resumed the list of downloads that inspired me to spend $10. As I write this I see that my download speed is 7.87KBs. I have had the Ticket twice before and the speed was acceptable. This is beyond any reason!!!!!.

I bet you have faster speed than I do...my downloading takes forever.

Well I dispute the "huge" value judgment. They do what their income allows them to do. Commercial companies do not offer free services. It is all budgted and accounted for. You will never receive anything free from a well run company.
Now I thought I would try rhe Download Cart since I have several files I want. That goofy thing tells me the file content is invalid. I am trying to download the TS2009 TS_xx environmental (ground) textures!!!
Guess I will try FTP next. Bet that will be fun.

Sure stuff doesn't work sometimes. But for someone who is using FCT on the DLS and my CMP in TRS because I lost my J-O-B on a very regular basis on an old laptop, I think it's pretty quick and it's working most of the time.

Have you tried this...
FTP downloading is the answer it moves at fair speed and I think it works great. My Download Helper never has worked. Try FTP it is in the download page.

I doubt that Auran rely on selling FCT's and TRS2009 to keep themselves afloat, they do sell quite a few other games BTW. It may keep the Trainz part of things going maybe. I guess at $20 a year a FCT is reasonable if the DLS works OK properly all the time, which it does'nt. Much better and more reliable to DL via FTP. Where would we be if Auran disappeared? All we'd be left with would be TPR, RRmods, Ibertrainz, trainzit, VMD, HPtrainz, USLW, jointedrail, oh and quite a few others. I don't think we'd be left with only wii. No new Trainz software developed, but the game would still continue to be used and new content made and available on websites.

TRS2006 CMP has been working flawlesswly, plugging away, downloading between 2.47kbs and 5.48kbs...I should be done...today...in @ 3 hours, or more, without a FCT lol

I was about to ask if something was wrong with the DS. A few weeks ago I renewed my FCT and haven't been able to DL anything since activating it. I always get the message that the SERVER MAY BE FULL. I have been trying every day and night since. It appears to be working for some of us though. I was downloading fine (but slowly) before I renewed my FCT but now nothing.
I do understand that it's not very expensive and appreciate all the effort of the creators "THANK YOU GUYS!!!".
Is there a trick to getting the downloads to start? I never had this problem the other times I had a FCT. I got about 60 days left on my 90 day pass with nothing to show:hehe: .
If there is nothing I can do about it, is there a way to disable my FCT and go back to downloading the slow way? Atleast that worked.
BTW - suffering the same luck with both my '06 and my '09 versions

I've actually had very good luck with CMP on 2006 although I haven't download anything for a few days. I typically run very close to the maximum rated speed of my connection on other than very short files. I've used both the DM and FTP as well as importing files from other sites as CDP's.
What I'm have no luck with is 2009. No matter how I try to download or import I die after the first two files load. No matter how long I wait it never finishes or for that matter wakes up. Only option is the kill CM2 in the task manager. On the first two files I have good speed, after that I show 7K/sec but in reality nothing is happening. Haven't had time to try to figure it out but I'm at the latest release and when I'm in Surveyor or Driver the game works fine so it's a mystery and not a little frustrating.

I had a similar problem. I purchased and activated my FCT. After 48 hours I still could only get a max download speed of 20kbps, which is better then the 5kbps without the ticket, but hardly worth the buying the ticket.
I contacted Auran via help desk and let them know it was not working. I asked that they please look into the situation and see if it is anything on their end and if they cannot find a solution that I would like my money refunded and the FCT de-activated.
I got a reply that the money would be re-funded and the FCT de-activated. =)
I thought I went about it in a polite way.
I figure I will give it a few more months and I will try to buy another one. I want to do anything I can to support Trainz 2009... but I am not in a position to just give money away for nothing. If I were, I would gladly invest. =)

If your DLS FCT hasn't activated immediately, try waiting 24 hours first (it does say that it can take 24 hours). If it hasn't started working by then, try logging out of your planet auran profile, then logging back in. If this hasn't helped, then try sending a message to the helpdesk

Quite Right! When I find Large (+2.00 MB) Items on a Route I'm Downloading, I find it on the Internet DLS, and Do a FTP Download. It doesn't take up any of your Downloading Allotment, and Is MUCH Faster than it Would take otherwise... Sorta like a "Poor Man's 1st Class Ticket"...

Let me see if I have this right. You paid $9.95US for your FCT, (that works out at less than 3 cents a day), which gives you unlimited access to over 110,000 content items on the DLS 24/7. (heavens, no wonder you feel ripped off)... Oh, it's download speed ya talking about !!!! (sorry, my appoligies)...
Well, if there is only a few hundred Trainz'ers trying to download at the same time, your download speeds should still be reasonable. If thousands are trying to download all at the same time, speeds WILL be SLOWER-SLOW...
Auran could increase the cost of your FCT upto $195.95US (p.a)
and with that extra revenue, buy more bandwith. Which will mean faster download speeds 24/7 for all. (which would you prefer, slower download speeds during peak period & still only be charged 3 cents a day, or the $199.95US (p.a) option & get "lightning speed") ???Alternatively you could checkout when the "PEAK" download PERIODS are and try and avoid those times.
If you are continually only getting speeds of less than 10Kbs, you either have a problem on your PC, or with your ISP. (do a speed test to check).
Over the last 2-3 weeks I've been averaging somewhere between 25 to 80Kbs and I live 1000's of miles away from the server. (down under). Happy trainzing.

Footnote, Three to four years ago most downloaders where getting somewhere around 200 - 270 kps download speeds. (Those that had FCT & reasonably fast broadband plans). With ten's of thousands, possibily hundreds of thousands of new Trainzers over the last few years now downloading, well that has simply put a lot more pressure on the existing bandwith.
I'm sure Auran has been increasing the avaliable bandwith over this period, with the extra revenue the FCT's has brought in, but I wonder if it is not time for Auran to re-look at increasing it's bandwith again to cope with the increase demand !!!
This would mean that the cost of a FCT would have to rise to cover the extra cost of the increased bandwith.

Perhaps some kind hearted Russian hacker will come along and copy everything off the DLS, so that us people with servers can host bits and pieces of the stuff here and there rather than let others go, "oh I'm sorry your ISP is messing with the DLS so you can't download" or "CMP just refuses to work and we don't know why".
