Article: Trainz 12 Service Pack 1

Need to reload Trainz 12 after patch failure?

I downloaded the patch and applied it - now Trainz 12 won't launch, all I get is an error message. Thanks guys, looks like I will have to reload my program:'(
Don't forget that most Windows computers have a system restore function, and it is not necessary to re-install Trainz - I had the same non launching problems after the patching was aborted by me after 8 hours -I was able to relaunch to the unadulterated program by restoring to an 'automatic system restore' date a couple of days before trying to patch. In any event, a system restore point should always be set before downloading/applying any new software!

John - are you aware of one of the side effects of System Restore (the one that deletes .exe and .dll files if they were not present in their current form in the restore point)?

After trying to install patch for the tenth time i keep getting an error message about my prebuilt assets.tdx file, and it then aborts the patch.
I have tried doing various things and downloaded the patch three times, very frustrating..
This is the error message I get

Ready to install from local patch file.

I had this one. In my case I believe that file was updated for AssetX purposes to bring it into line with TS12 SP1 requirements some months ago.

Make a copy of the file and save it somewhere else and try replacing the contents with just these four lines

time
speed
anim
timeofday

For some reason there is another smoke-mode.txt file in TETdata. It, on my system, has the shorter list. No idea why but after SP1 and the hotfix it remains with a file date of 3/4/11.

edit: the file isn't really damaged but it doesn't match what was expected.

I had the same problem so I installed TRS12 onto a different drive to get the original smoketext.txt and then copied into the existing TRS12. The smokemode.txt I have now has the following:-

constant
time
speed
anim
anim2
timeofday
custom
cyldrainl
cyldrainr
stack
whistle
generator
lowpressurevalve
highpressurevalve
blow0
blow1
fire-temperature
boiler-temperature

Have tried total reboot of TS12 version 49922 on my Windows 8, with Firewall and AV disabled repairing between each stage, get to SP 1, freezes after getting to half way point, on checking graphs in Task Manger, Deamon (excuse spelling) still working away, left for over an hour or two, no further progress, so abandon my attempt and after running a repair, given up. Will wait until somebody get it sorted, also why in this day and age do we have to still disable our vital AV cover, is beyond me.

As stated elsewhere, the SP1 patch can take up to 12 hours to install. The reason AV protection has to be disabled during patching is because it interferes with the process and dramatically slows it down, and in some cases it can cause the patch to fail.

I get the following error when patching. This on a new install of TS12 49922. Which took forever(3 hours install and 4 hours to run the patch) on a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz w/ 8GB ram.

Ready to install from local patch file.

Current version: 49922.

There are no more patches for this build.

Updating Trainz asset database... (this may take several minutes)

- Failed to open asset database

- Init failed

I have exactly the same problem I wish someone could advise. I have tried it on 2 computers, and reloaded a fresh version of ts12. But the problem is always the same. I think the patch just does not work !

Thanks Shane -- no I wasn't, thanks for the tip - but at least my Trainz 12 is working correctly.

The patch and hotfix went fine (approx 2 hours for the patch). Well, I had to fully turn off Bitdefender, for it messed up the patch file when I tried it with only the autoscan turned off.
Has the merge problem really been solved? The program does not crash, the layouts are merged but there is still the "chasm" problem at the seams, though not as serious as before (in TRS2009). At the site of the merge, there is a chasm and there are minor damages at board edges further from the merging site, including faded textures.

Have installed 12/SP1 and hotfix. No apparent difficulties although I have not tried running any sessions. The one thing that's really bugging me is that TS2009: Skipton & Carlisle will not now install. In the "Options" menu in the TS12 Railway Simulator opening screen, on the first install of SP1, Hotfix and then S&C, I got the message, "xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx is not a valid product key." for S&C. On the second reinstall of Railway Simulator and the rest, I tried again to reinstall S&C and the product key did not appear at all.
In Windows Explorer, in the "Builtin" JA Files, "snc.ja" is in the first line in the list, so, it seems that S&C has installed at least partially. Thank you in advance for any help on this please.

Had to uninstall S&C using the "Forced Uninstall" feature of a payware uninstaller. The file, "000unins" for S&C was corrupted. Only way to uninstall S&C was to uninstall TS12. It seems that when S&C attempts to install on my system it hijacks the identity of TS12 - and TS12 shows up in Control Panel> All Programs as TS2009:Skipton & Carlisle. (?????)

EDIT; Have just tried to reinstall the Duchess Pack and that can't be done either. The Duchess does show up in Control Panel> All Programs as being installed but it too, like S&C, does not appear in the Opening Screen> General> Product Key list.

I don't believe it tried one more time, again disable AV and FireWall (even though I'd cleared TS12 to be let through) on top of which I disconnected from internet, left it running finally it loaded, after repair, ran second patch again run repair. On re-starting, with everything crossed,TS12 it re-download and installed all my extras S and C, Duchess etc, which I had already re-installed and patched, since last attempt to run SP1. It appears to be running okay tried several sessions, so far no problems, phew!! Did nothing different than the other times, other than disconnecting from web, maybe a warning that the patch appears to freeze at 50% for over an hour or two, before finally installing, would help just a thought.

:)

If I'm reading this right you are trying to use the S&C installer on SP1?
This is where some clear advance advice would have been an idea. You can't use the S&C installer on SP1.
SP1 does not use ja files that's why you have to download the update from within the game, after all the DLC has installed you can delete the DLC only ja files or move them somewhere else, as now they don't do anything in SP1 other than take up disk space. And yes this was extremely annoying and time consuming but the only way you are going to get DLC to work in SP1.
You can also remove the invalid registrations after you have installed the upgraded DLC, as they are not needed or even recognised for the new format, which now live in the UserData/Packages folder in a format somewhat similar to that of the local and original folders.

The upgrade of S&C is worth it as all the additional content from the S&C site seems to have been added and some updates appear to have been done, probably so it works with SP1.
