Article: Nickel Plate High Speed Freight Set - Now Available

I own 2012 but run 2010 since my one major layout was begun with 2004 and gives me too much trouble when I try it with 2012.
Is there any chance the Berkshire will work with 2010??? I'd buy it in a flash since I love 50's era steam.

Don't think so, see Malc's post just above yours. It appears to be reserved exclusively for people like gawpo50.

You register the serial number at Planet Auran and when you start TS12 it will automatically download, that's start actual Trainz not content Manager. that is the only method of downloading now for DLC released after TS12 SP1.

Serial number will be at Simulator Central under your account, my serial numbers on the left.

ok thanks. so how will i know its downloading? once i start trainz (sounds like have to go into the routes, layout, etc mode) where do I see it downloading?

Also, how do I know if I have SP1 installed? I have trs 12 for sure and think i have SP1.

On the serial numbers. I dont have one for my purchase. When I look in Simulator Central > My Account > My downloads it doesnt appear there.

Finally, where do i register it? I'm thinking not in simulator central but in planet auran under Profile > serial numbers?

Ugh, sorry for the questions. I think all the complaints about the quality of this new train add-on (ie - spelling) is a bit much. I'm so glad to have new content to try out. But this whole buying process and lack of information on their part is pretty bad. Still, very excited to try this out -- once I can figure it out!

When you first start Trainz, look at the bottom right of the splash screen. If the build number is >57XXX then it's SP1. The latest one is 58414. There is no need to register serial numbers for DLC, as far as I know.

Quick question out there, im a reskinner and if its not out there, I make it. So how come those of you out there who do know how, why not just fix it yourself or something? Now dont start a hate war on me but i just was wondering thats all.

I didnt know that because i havnt purchase 20 bucks worth of something people are saying wait for all because of a stupid misspelling.

The reason I say if, is because nothing has been decided yet. We can't promise an update, as we have yet to confirm that we will release one at this time. We will be looking into this though.

As to downloading and installing the pack.

First, you MUST have TS12 SP1. When you next start Trainz, the pack will automatically start downloading (a download window will appear). If it does not, please go to the 'Get Content' menu then click on 'redownload all purchases'. Please then cancel any other downloads that start.

You do not need to register a serial number, and no serial number is provided for this pack (nor will one be provided for any future DLC releases - note, the earlier DLC's will at this time still be sold with serial numbers).

Regards

nicky9499 - I must disagree with you here, pending clarification from N3V.

There's been at least one or two posts from N3V staff saying that serial numbers have to be registered to a user's profile in order to download that content in TS12 SP1.

No problem - as I said though, I'm awaiting clarification from N3V so it may have changed again since N3V posted their information last.

Gracias y saludos

I'm sorry to quote this, but, I tried getting it yesterday and on the day when the order was placed, and I tried the re-download all purchases, is there something I'm doing wrong or something I missed, I have my game up to the latest build, 58414.

Register Serial number? Yes I'm aware there are those that say you don't have to but if it has a serial try registering it.

I'm sorry but your answer begs another question: If you release content with a bug in it, say the Engine Spec is off, what's the policy on getting that fixed? It sounds like "Maybe when we'll get around to it." Since it is payware content, I can't fix it anymore it's locked up and if you won't fix it who will? Would you unlock it so the community could fix it?

If you're saying that you don't have a schedule to fix something so obvious then why release it at all? That really confuses me because N3V knows they have a very, very particular group of Railfans out here and in essence, you've given them something that is broken. I'm halfway tempted to buy it so I can open a trouble ticket every other day and have poor Zec reply "Please stop sending me trouble tickets!" but that would be mean spirited.

I realize it must be a pain and an embarrassment to have this pointed out. You have to fix the asset, repackage it, re-bundle it for distribution but seriously don't release something that's flawed and then say "we can't commit to fixing it." If I go to Jointed Rail, Roy's Trainz or any of the other paid content providers out there and tell them there's an issue with their content, they'd fix it in a heartbeat because they realize that their reputation in the community and their dedication to being authentic is very very important to their customers. Do the right thing here, fix this and re-release it for folks who want it to be correct, hell it needs to be correct if you're paying respect to the NKP; it's the right thing to do.

Thanks for the help. Sadly I realized I have build 49922 and looks like not SP1. I'm not planning in installing SP1 for fear of messing other things up. My fault. Still I wonder if I can get a refund.

As far as releasing software you have to understand how the business works. Sure every software product released is going to have bugs (Imagine how many bugs MS word had in its initial release). For some products there's an alpha, a beta, and an initial GA release (generally available to users) and no hard set plan after that. A product like MS word surely had a huge budge and plan for future releases. A small $20 content add on packs may not, especially one with a cosmetic defect which minimally impacts the customer experience. In a perfect world with unlimited time and resources, yes, it would be fixed right away. but I'm sure NV3 has higher priority items on their product roadmap and backlog than a cosmetic defect for a $20 add on. Yes this is payware which also means a business.

im just happy to have any businesses out there to support our niche hobby.

If they don't want to fix it, then unlock reskining so that we can fix it ourselves.

Here are a few clarifications:
* Patching from TS12 Build 49922 to SP1 Build 58414 is a one step process (download link at: http://www.auran.com/servicepacks/ ).
* New DLC content is created for the latest version since this system protects the content from re-distribution and also serves our largest installed user base.
* Mobile and Mac users will be getting further DLC items. We are a small company servicing a niche market and takes us time to get everything on the list done.
* Serial numbers were required for DLC content prior to SP1 but are not required with the new DRM system. The confusion probably arises from the instructions when installing SP1 that you needed your serial number registered for previous DLC items so that we could issue you the new "no-serial-number-required" SP1 version.
* The reason Zec is saying "we may be releasing an update" is that there has not been an official decision yet. It is the weekend in Australia, and after extensive beta testing, no-one had noticed a missing C on the caboose. We will discuss the options at our production meeting on Monday. (for example; are there other issues that testing didn't identify that also need fixing? Where in the priority list does this fix fall? etc.)
* Regarding "care taken" over the production and testing of this item, I think people are misreading the situation completely. Sometimes the obvious is not so obvious. Mitt Romney managed to release an app with the main screen saying "A better Amercia" http://edition.cnn.com/2012/05/30/tech/mobile/amercia-romney-iphone-app. One train of thought (pardon the pun) is that this was done intentionally to increase awareness. Who knows. Interesting that both mistakes involve the letter 'c'.
To add a little more colour (yes that is how I was taught to spell that word) to the discussion:
"Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteers be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe."

Well, I guess that explains how a small "C" left out of a graphic and not seen!! Vrey well exlpiaend :hehe:

You really can't say it can you? You can't just say "We obviously made an error and shall correct it directly".
