Article: Nickel Plate High Speed Freight Set - Now Available

Almost Ordered It Tonight, but in need of a First Class Ticket and want to buy the B&O Engine. The screenshots look great, but a video showing the sounds (precision 4 chuffs per revolution is critical for $22 USD) and particle effects is important to me. No shot of the PM Engine? One thing I do not like is the Caboose Misspelling on a very expensive set and the textures are too blue per my viewing. If the price drops and the caboose is fixed, it could be a future asset.

My opinion is K&L Trainz is really improving on each new release and therefore my "go to" for US Payware Steam Right Now. Ocemy Berkshire has some fantastic Marker Lights and Headlights that I hope K&L will work on.

When I start Trainz 12 (58414), the program try to download the Nickel Plate High Speed Freight Set but don't install it and tell me that "installation of the content package failed due to presence of corrupted data". What can I do?

Welcome to the forums.

It's the first time I've heard of that particular pack doing that, but I would suggest re-trying the download, as the servers may have gone down briefly during your download.

The NKP 765 is also not prototypical unless it is assumed it is the Rebuilt Running NKP 765 of today. The original headlight configuration is not that of the model. The S2 Berkshire had the following showed below. When the NKP 765 was rebuilt, they had to utilize a different headlight.

This is the caboose that was primarily pulled by the NKP Berkshires and should of been the model of choice or the second one:

Tanks, but stevelerro (July 25th, 2013, 07:10 AM) has the same problem and I had started Trainz several times and I had allways the same message.

Had a chance to run her last night, wow awesome set. I love the interior of the caboose, the atmosphere sent shivers up my spine!

You folks are doing better than I with this DLC. I've got it downloaded but only the tenders and the caboose show up in the game. All the proper folders and files seem to be in the folders but I cannot see the locos or the box car. I know they've loaded because the shadow mesh shows and the horn sounds. When I'm trying to place them in Surveyor, I don't see the little rotating thumbnail in the rolling stock pullout, but the tiny little loco picture on the bar across the bottom when placing the consist shows the locomotive. The locos and the box car don't show in Railyard either. I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm running Trainz 12, latest patch 58414. Video card is 1GB ATI Radeon 4600. Computer is a 4GB memory with an AMD Phenom 9600B Quad Core processor running at 2.3GHz. With the quad core it should have plenty of horsepower. Has anyone heard or read of this problem? Monday I suppose I'll be looking for help from the help desk, but in the meantime I'm disappointed.

I would suggest checking with N3V in that case, as according to them there should be no download problems. Also, make sure your firewall is not blocking Trainz.

Good Evening All
For those seeing issues with the NKP assets showing correctly in Trainz, please try running a quick database repair in Content Manager. To do this, please first open Content Manager, then click on 'file', then click on 'quick database repair'.

Once the repair has completed, please start Trainz and then try using the NKP pack's assets again.

If you are seeing issues with a corrupted download, then please try running a quick database repair as well. Once this has completed, please start Trainz and try downloading the pack again.

You may also wish to try clearing the cache in TS12 to ensure that Trainz is downloading the file again. To do this, please open Windows Explorer or My Computer and navigate to your Trainz folder (the default location would be C:\Program Files (x86)\ N3V Games\TS12\ or equivalent), then open the 'UserData' folder, then go to the 'cache' folder, then open the 'internet' folder. Please then delete all files that are listed in this folder.

If you do still see these issues, then please submit a ticket to our helpdesk for us to look into this further.
Regards

Zec, thanks for the insight. Regarding my problem of the locos and boxcar not showing up. I did a quick database repair (which isn't all that quick with the assets I have) but to no avail. Still not seeing them, but I know they're being placed because the shadow mesh shows on the ground. Strange. I submitted a ticket to the helpdesk with high priority, although the last time I did submit a ticket, and follow ups...I got no response.

It would seem that NV3 are limiting their sales if this set is only for TS12 SP1. Surely there would be a lot of Trainzers running TRS2009 or 2010 who would like to buy this. Not much business sense here. The old "works for me" phrase is getting rather worn out because SP1 update has caused a heap of trouble for quite a lot of folks.

I don't own this pack, but I have seen a couple of videos on youtube and you can tell that this model was based on PM 1225. There are three things that are inaccurate for NKP Berkshires.
Problem #1: The Cab
The cab is inaccurate for NKP Berks, but is accurate for PM N-1 Berks
Here is a pic of NKP 765's cab.

Now, here's PM 1225's cab.

As you can see, PM 1225 uses a hand-crank screw-reverser and NKP 765 has a Johnson bar reverser.

Problem #2: Hand-Rung Swinging Bell
NKP Berks didn't us hand-rung bells. Instead they used automatic bells. The PM Berks did use hand-rung bells. Take a look at these videos of NKP 765 and PM 1225. First, here's 765
Now here's PM 1225.

As you can see, PM 1225 has a hand-rung bell and 765 doesn't. Don't get me wrong. That bell animation is a nice touch. But, it's on the wrong engine.

Problem #3: No MARS Light
In regular service, NKP had mars-lights installed on their Berks. This model does not. I don't really have a problem with that because some of NKP's older Berks didn't have mars-lights, but most of NKP's Berks did. It would be nice if there was a model with a mars-light and a model without it.

One other thing. The whistle is recorded from PM 1225. This is also not a big deal because it is hard to find a good sound clip of an authentic NKP Nathan 6 Chime from a NKP Berk in service.

Talk about rivet counting and nit-picking taken to a new extreme.

Not necessarily GAWPO50. The two engines are 2-8-4 Lima Berkshires, but the expensive DLC Content is NOT PROTOTYPICAL individually.
They should be for DLC Premium Content. N-1 and S-2 Lima Berkshires have differences between the two.
This is marketed as the NKP 765 High Speed Freight Set, not the PM 1225 Polar Express therefore the mesh/cab should of represented the NKP 765, reskin for the PM 1225, or prototypical individual cabs.

Problem #3 listed is the same I have mentioned and the marketing states NKP 765 Berkshire Early Version Thus MEANS MARS LIGHT.

These are facts and the research should of shown this prior to the development.
But who am I, just a nobody who adores these Two Infamous Berkshires and been inside both.
