Article: M/M, TWOR, E2, TANE, Kickstarter Nov 13

Underworlds? Dead ducks? All we are missing is a conspiracy theory.

Of course any business without the support of it's customers is a dead duck. We are far from dead, but we are launching a project that we feel will bring a whole new lease of life to the Trainz platform. This additional funding does not pay close to 100% of the development cost. It provides the gap in funds between what we CAN spend and what we NEED to spend to make Trainz A New Era truly awesome. It is obviously a very hard concept for some people to understand.

Regarding Multiplayer, perhaps I have missed the question (there are lots of pages of questions. Anyway, all will be revealed Nov 13.

November 13 - that's all I hear. I see and hear a lot of "possibles", "wish lists", "maybe's", perhaps "pipe dreams"??

I've been part of a lot of different games / simulators / 1st person style / etc. over the last 25 years. I've never been asked to fund a game before I can see it / taste it / feel it / basically experience it! I have always researched a game, decided whether or not to buy it or not, then play it. I've played games with a monthly fee that had their own servers running, I've played games with really bad servers that were not funded by the gaming company. I've played a ton of single player games...

I am very skeptical at this point and will find it very hard to put money in place where there is nothing concrete to work with. I am in a wait and see mode - as I research other options. As I said in another forum, I've been hanging by a thread for most of the past year, with no real improvements. I've upgraded my system because of the absolute disaster SP1 and hotfixes were - so I've put my money into it that way - only to find out that MP is dying and people seem to be leaving in droves. There is virtually no MP running and virtually no interest in MP since the SP & updates. I've been working on a map but have stopped because I think at this point MP is absolutely DEAD. After spending 100's of hours working on MP maps... I've put my map up a couple times this August/September with not one person joining in days... Think I'm disappointed to say the least - yes!

It'll take a heck of a lot of persuasion for N3V to bring me on board. I think the last year speaks volumes on its own.

I really don't want to sound pessimistic, but N3V has not given me a lot of optimism in this past year...

Just my thoughts - for the record...

Check out Kickstarter and you will see hundreds of games who have done exactly that - we are not pioneers here. Like all the other game companies who have launched projects through Kickstarter, we believe this process is the best way to deliver a great experience for our customers. Hopefully our customers, when they see the full project, will agree.

Regarding MP issues and other Trainz related issues, I also suggest that the best opportunity to ensure we have time and bandwidth to address and fix problems sooner rather than later is to support our project. With financial support, and a new bigger better product behind us, we will be in a far better position to support both existing and new customers for many years to come.

Great news! I was there at Ipswich Rail Museum on Saturday when TRAINZ A NEW ERA, TRAINZ WORLD OF RAIL, A NEW ENGINE E2 and KICKSTARTER was announced. To all Trainz enthusiasts, guys and gals, we have something really special to look forward to. N3V have the technology and the knowledge of past experience to move us forward to new gaming heights. The skeptics can say what they like, but I have a more positive attitude and strong confidence, that our gaming platform will be far superior than any other simulator game in the market. I'm all for the 'Kickstarter' program, which means the more people who want something better than what they already have, and participate,... then a better gaming experience happens sooner and not later. Everyone benefits. Well done N3V for your initiative and your great team of support staff. It was great to meet you guys last Saturday.

Thanks for the kind words Roy. For those that haven't seen the link elsewhere, here is the video of the Trainz Future of Trainz announcement Ipswich Show. http://youtu.be/uqg8X8BGbR0

Im calling Jessie Ventura, Ha Ha,
This is not about condeming N3V nor is it a debate, it's all about the future of Trainz and a change of direction to make the track far stronger than it has ever been before, it is a much better ride for all if you don't get of the train, however we would hate to see you go, but if you wish to go nobody is stopping you, just stop trying to derail the future for us who are willing to hop out and help push to make it better for all.
Ive had my spit over 12 but you know what it's runing ok now and has done for a time.
It's time to move forward

Since you are making Trainz World of Rail a Steam exclusive game, would you consider adding Steam Trainz trading cards? With Steam trading cards you can craft them together after you collected all of them, and get a badge for doing so. You can also get backgrounds for your Steam profile and or smileys. I would love to have Trainz badges and backgrounds on my profile!

I note that N3V haven't answered these questions, especially question 1.

Does it mean that the download station will become pay-only, or is the company planning to get rid of the download station altogether?

Economics? Will Trainz cost me more this way? If it will, then I will wait until TR15 or whatever is released and then buy it.
With most Governments and many families in the world unable to run to budget, it is no wonder that economics is a confounding subject.
At phimat, when an "answer" is not an answer to a question being asked, you know what that means.
Tony Hilliam, the correct answer was either a Yes or No.

The truth emerges from the depths of the underworld. TS12 is a dead duck per above comment and therefore the customers of TS12 will not have a solid game. Multiplayer was the big deal with TS12 and the key marketing strategy of N3V with TS12.
Have to agree with Mcquirel here. TS12 has many faults.
Road traffic all over the place for example,
Objects moving such as houses (TS10 does to, but not as bad as TS12)
Faulty rollingstock does NOT work at all in TS12, unlike TS10.
And I have possibly even struck built-in items that have faults, and don't work - before I added to it (meaning that TS12 is not fit for its purpose, and according to Fair Trading rules, you are entitled to either a Repair, Refund OR replacement. If a refund, then you are entitled to get ALL of it back, including any postage & handling costs.

Razor01 mentions in his post here about monthly fees.

Is that what company plans to do, where we have to pay monthly fees to be able to use this simulator?

Make also a new sound core please... It would be fine for it to be based on pre-defined trigger system, as in Railworks, allowing content creators not to script any small sound effect. The most common of them are: vehicle's impacts (buffer sounds, clamps) , coupling sounds , track sounds (attached to bogey assets) , brake system (air flow for application and release (both partial and full), wheel squeal sound during braking), engine sounds. As an example, Developer Docs for Railworks may be used - triggers and events described there are completely enough for "default" car. Any addictive can be done using script, as it is.

I had posted this thought in the other T:ANE thread, but have since realized that may have been the wrong place to do so; so I am repeating it here (apologies):

I realize it may be a trivial thing in the big picture, but personally I would like to see something done about making the behavior of road traffic more realistic -- specifically, a fix for the 'demolition derby' effect. Trainz is of course firstly a railroad simulator, but it is also a 'World Simulator' and as such I think that the odd behavior of carz detracts significantly from the overall experience.

So: I would like to see realistic carz traffic be a 'stretch' goal on the Kickstarter list. Or perhaps it already is?

-Mike

May not be an issue with a new engine, I suspect even hope, many of the current niggles may not be.

That depends on what your calling a powerfull computer, what is powerfull to 1 is not to another, as it stands most people who are already using Trainz should have a powerfull enough computer, this also boils down to how much detail one wishes to place on there route, but with the use of multi-core CPU, 64bit, multi GPU's WOW Now where talking.

However if people are going to upgrade there computers or some hardware in there computers please ask others before you run off and buy whatever part if you don't really know much about computer hardware, in fear of wasting money

I am really pleased to see that the mac is not been left out,as an ex PC user,I am really looking forward to the upgrade. In some areas the mac version lags behind the PC version imho

Will concurrent editing be possible? Will I be able to build a section of the route with other developers together in real time? One person or two laying track, another placing buildings, while someone else is working on terrain objects and textures?

Can we all be in the sandbox together? ; )

At a minimum, would there be some repository so a team can easily check the route in and out committing updates asynchronously?
