Not really a Deltic fan! Just found a few pictures of them, got a few more if you really want. Tonight lets have a bit of steam.

Firstly, the 2 noisy bits on an A4!

And a reminder of how good a view you could get from a DMU if the driver did not pull down the blinds!

The most famous British Loco ever (with the possible exception of Mallard). Flying Scotsman at Kirkham Abbey between York and Scarborough.

A REAL loco, shame it's not black but hey! Evening Star, the last mainline steam loco built for Britain, (excluding replicas)

Class 143, what on earth is that brilliant sculpture on about. I thought that I knew most of the obscure and weird things about UK railways but that is ace. May I use your picture to show a couple of people? Near me we have a statue of a stick of rhubarb and one which is basically a pit head winding gear, but for some reason it's upside down!

John

ps couldn't get to see the Scarborough Spa tonight, hoping for a session tomorrow!

John

You have my permission to show them.
The drams sculpture is an 8 meter high sculpture of drams at the Maesycymmer end of Hengoed Viaduct. It was completed in June 2000 and shows companies Drams that either used the viaduct on the Brecon to Neath line or the Rhymney Line. Drams were names for colliery wagons that were used to transport coal from the collierys to Cardiff. They are from top to bottom Evans and Bevans Collierys, Great Western Railway, Empire Colliery, Ocean Colliery and the Rhymney Railway. Theres also a Hengoed High Level sign at the closed station that used to extend onto the viaduct at the over end.
There is a page here about them http://www.cywaithcymru.org/eng/archive_detail.php?projectsID=75

oh dear!

This week the Scarborough Spa is being worked by Duchess of Sutherland. HOWEVER! due to gauging problems only the main York to Scarborough part is steam hauled. Craig and I went to recce (sp?) Church Fenton and to see which West Coast diesel was covering the Leeds Harrogate loop.

Some pommie stuff - a few from the early days.

It's April 1968 at Lostock Hall, one of the last steam sheds left in the UK. I'm 12 years old, steam has only 4 months til the end of steam and I have one shot left on my Kodak Brownie 127. So what do I do? Make sure I get both the diesels in and make one of them the central focus of the Pic?

This is just the icing of the cake, i have many more. It is supposedly said that the LA&L is taking on 11! more ALCos from various other companies. They all are being rebuilt, all 11 of them, and i may, go watch them remove the hood, pull the primemover, and place a new one in a few of them.
WOOT!!! :udrool: :udrool:
Cheers,
Sean

Thanks Sean, I now know a little more about locos over the pond. Is this a museum line or just a small company buying second hand locos?

Mark, thanks for the pictures at Leeds. I remember being disappointed when a TransPennine DMU rolled up instead of a class 40 or Peak on the Manchester service. I don't think I ever wasted(!) a single frame of film on one. Shame on me.

Are there any more photographers out there? I like sharing my efforts, and would welcome any comments on them. I would also like to see someone else post too!

As you may gather I've had a few days off. So to get back to Trainz etc does any one know where this station buffet is? The beer is fine!

Hi John, I just sent you a PM, your photograph was very nice, and yes the beer is very good, but I only managed to stop for 1 pint. :hehe:

In addition to your shot, I thought I would set another teaser, as to who can tell where this photograph from the 1980's was taken, and yes, this BR Class 50 was on a scheduled daily freight working.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.
