Are We Nerds?

I'll use my first post on this.

Everyone in some sort of way is a nerd. Everyone has their hobbies that some may just roll their eyes at. Some are like oh wow look at that. People who build cars/collect, people to collect coins/dolls/nic nacs, model railroaders, people who plant in their garden, everyone of those is a nerd in a sort of way. It's what you think of yourself that really matters. In this huge old world there are millions of people, some like your hobbies, some think you are crazy. Myself, I am a model railroader, we have a spot in a mall I go to every weekend to run. I can't explain how many girls come up to me and talk about the hobby (some without boyfriends haha). Think of World of Warcraft, there are people on there that have met on there and gotten married... over a computer game... so yes there are girls in this world that are foamers as well, just very rare to fine. So never call your self a nerd or a loser and feel down upon yourself. You are a unique person just like myself or any other person on this forum who has the same love for railroading as many of people do.. Sad is even people who work at the railroad hate it, but for the few months I worked there, I was in heaven.

So;

Keep your head up! :D

Ah, i know i'm a nerd. When i start talking about trains, people just walk away. I'm just fortunate that my grandpa is a train lover like me, so i can at least talk to him!

we're all nerds here, to some degree. but be proud of it! just think about it this way...the rest of the world is missing out!:D :p

What really baffles me, the very fact that I'm on the trainsim forums indicates that I'm a grown man who plays with toy trains - yet people are always shocked when they discover that I don't have all my oars in the water. :hehe:

Never marry one. They have a pressure point on their ring finger that when you put a band on it, makes them forget all the cool stuff you married them for to begin with.
It also makes them addicted to shoe shopping.

Dave........

I am a nerd, I love trainz (and Railworks too - whisper), and I am single, and blimey isn't it a peaceful life - not a shoe shop in sight - ever, and I am happy too, I can do what I want, I can go where I want, with who I want, whenever I want, I can spend my own money whenever I like on things I want, and no-one at the door at the end of the day, with a suitcase saying your sleeping with the gnome in the garden tonight.:'(

Blimey it's a wonderul life, and I am proud to be a nerd...

Don't make Trainz (or trains) your life. You need a well rounded life to not be considered a nerd. When you start talking about the pros and cons of narrow gauge vs. standard gauge with your girlfriend, you've probably lost her attention.

Mike

I can agree with that for sure. Honestly I kinda lead a double life, one with trainz, JR and trains and another with my mates at school and work. Trainz is a great way for me to relax and be creative. I'm probably into cars (Holden all the way!) and guitars just as much as trains so its a good balance, i wouldnt call myself a nerd but then again thats my opinion:hehe:

It's not really that bad, marriage has turned out to be quite amusing.

Mike

Ha!

Probably one of the best post's i've seen here Ryan well done mate, We are what we are if Trainz/Trains is your thing then enjoy it all you can while you can cause this life is way too short to worry about what sum one else may think of you or what you believe in or stand for.
Cheers Mick.

Very true mick:)

Nerds? I don't think so, being a nerd is a state of mind like many other things but well... what can we say we like are trains its what we research in, its different for everybody and that's why allot of people wont understand it.
Sure a person being a train fan is allot more scarce than being a football fan or something else, but that has allot to do with the impression... and everyone knows football is on the TV and everywhere else so its bound to be noticed, the trains are confined to their places so its allot less noticed.
In Britain steam would of been confined to the history books if it wasn't for the nerds who loved the steam age and brought it back into the future their will always be a place for the past in the future after all, so we may not be the most desirable of all folk but we are the icky sticky bits that hold a bit of history together.

Bit of a speech from a 14 year old init? lol, good day.

Exactly me to Rich, I even like Holden.:hehe:
I am also a front-rower in Rugby, and a blue-belt in a Martial Art, but like Taking photos of trains, and talking about them
aaand people who think I'm a nerd are usually one who play Call of Duty in their basement on weekends.

I honestly think they're as nerdy as us, or more!

I think I might be a nerd!

Everyone in the school teases me, I argue with others as to whether trains or planes are better, (there's a model plane club @ school!)or whether trainz or Minecraft is better. I always loose! :(

The only people I know in real life who likes trains is my science teacher, who used to work for QR as a driver, I think, and has a large collection of train stuff, including one of PB15 555's numberplate! He better give it back!:hehe:

I like Volkswagens, whereas the others are into Ferrari or Lamborghini.

My taste in movies is different, Duel, Unstoppable, The Titfield Thunderbolt etc, as opposed to Transformers, though I like TrainsFormers, with OpThomas Prime and Megatrain!

And I bore everyone constantly with my train ramblings.:D

I think that I might be a nerd, ...

...but likely more for the Smurfs :p :p :p than Trainz at the moment, as weird as it may seem. All in just the past few/several days, it seems. LOL!!!!!! :p I must have had a spell cast on me! Arrrrrgh, I need to find a way to restore my actual interest in Trainz; now it can be difficult to find some thing to do at times! Maybe getting my model of the U. S. & S. style "R"/"R-2" colorlight railway signal finished and into Trainz will help, for I have been wanting to have it in Trainz for a while now after I started the model. ;)

One thing is for sure, though: I am probably a nerd when it comes to checking up on these forums daily! ;)

Regards,
Retro. :o

G'day,

I don't think you're a nerd, more of a geek realy.:hehe:

Seriously, just be yourself and don't worry to much about what others think about you. I gave up worying about that hen I was about 12. I lived my life being ME, and not something others would like me to be.
As for the argument of what's better, plains or trains, at least trains don't fall out of the sky:hehe:.

Have a good one
E.C.
