Any ATSF Fans Here?

My story

I hope to work for Norfolk Southern when I grow up, I would have worked for the ATSF but Gaynorthern took over. Too bad Santa Fe is no longer with us. Today you are lucky to see a faded pink and silver warbonnet and blue bonnets are no longer with us.

Anyway, in the 90's, blue and yellow and red and silver warbonnets is what I remember rolling through the desert at 70 (sometimes 80!) MPH.

5ft from the track a kid stands in awe as 3 C40-8Ws thunder by at 70MPH with a hot manifest, the doppler effect from the Leslie horn is unforgetable, so is the boy's grandpa who was at the throttle of the Dash 8 waving to his grandson who would one day be in his old man's spot.

That boy was me.

My Story

Who was there when the 3751 needed repair with a wrench in his pocket and a toolbox in his hand?, me. Who was there to help restore one of the last Hi-level cars? me. Who has over a 100 Santa Fe HO scale engines? me. Who spent 5,000 dollars of my own money to help restore the only Santa Fe item at our museum? me. And finally who has a Santa Fe conductors key, lantern, herald and conductors badge in my trophy case, me. So once again i say, i am and always will be the biggest Santa Fe fan on this forum, so cookiemae think twice next time.

Santa Fe all the way.

THANKS ALOT MAN!!!:D :D Guess I'll need to add you to my buddy list!:D Time to google the ATSF First District. And if anyone knows a thing or two about the ATSF First District, I'll be glad to hear it! Crman128, in what time period did you live in Cleburne? I focus on the "good ole days" of ATSF railroading(the early to mid 90s era). I just love the Red/Silver Warbonnet GP60Ms, F45s, SD75Ms, C44-9Ws, B40-8Ws, and C40-8Ws.

Your welcome buddy, your on my bud list too, those GP60M's were awesome, i like those CF7's too but those where some old school diesels, Can't forget the #302, the oldest know Santa Fe diesel.

Brill Car M-160

Gandalfs question

Quote from Age of Steam Railroad Museum - Dallas Tx
"Build Date: 1931
Current Status: Restored and Operational
Road: Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway

Originally built by the Brill Motorcar Company as a gas-electric, the M.160 had major rebuilds in 1948 and 1952, when it was fitted with a diesel engine and components from Santa Fe's first E-1 passenger locomotive. M.160 spent much of its life on Santa Fe's vast network of rural branch lines, initially operating between Amarillo, Texas and Carlsbad, New Mexico, and later used on the Wichita, Kansas - San Angelo, Texas route. Its last service was between Carlsbad and Clovis, New Mexico on trains 25 and 26, "The Cavern," painted in the red and silver "warbonnet" paint scheme used for passenger locomotives and pulling round end chair observation number 3197. M.160 was retired in December 1966 and stored at Clovis until donation of both M.160 and 3197 in January, 1969.
End quote

Refered to as a "Doodlebug"
Here in Aus both South Aus and Victorian Rail ran them-- In South Aus they were refered to as "Barwell Bulls" (IIRC) due to the sound of the bull horn fitted.
Hope this helps

Real Fan

I don't think so buddy boy............... Santa Fe rest in peace, you call yourself a fan? SANTA FE WILL NEVER EVER DIE!!!

Santa Fe ALL THE WAY!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Sorry just had to show you that i am the biggest Santa Fe fan and always will be.

Hell Yeah I call myself a fan. Hell Yeah I am a fan! I have traveled the whole Santa Fe Transcon from Chicago to L.A on a road trip doing something we call RAILFANING, SANTA FE RAILRAILFANING. Have you done so mister? Did you get to operate a B40-8W with a GP60 B unit and few thousand tons of train behind you? Did you go in the engine room of a FP45 and witness the great beast waken from its sleep? I doubt it.
Does your Grandpa tell you storys of operating the Super Chief back in the day? I even have a operations book from the ATSF from 1969. I have two Santa Fe lanterns in my room, Santa Fe calenders that date back to the 80s, and at my grandpas house he/I have an actual Red and Yellow Santa Fe caboose!

WOW,I think you win:o

So, you spend a few thousand and screw a few bolts and plugs on the 3751 and you think your bad?

How dare you question my Fan status. Santa Fe, dead? Who says such a thing?

Bonafide Santa Fe fan here, it runs in my blood as both of my grandpas worked on the ATSF. My dad was on ATSF too from 93-95 when he switched to Norfolk Southern as a conditon of the merger with Gaynorthern.

And oh yeah, I AM THE BIGGEST ATSF FAN ON THE FORUM

R.I.P AT&SF = ROLL IN PEACE Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe

Santa Fe ALL the way.
