AnnouncingTrainz™ Simulator 2009 & Trainz™ Simulator X

Either that or he's now one of the beta testers, which he seems to be alluding to in every post he makes. Lol.

Smiley.
Been there, done that. Their knowledge of what's going on behind Auran's closed door is nil. Beta testers are nothing more then guinea pigs. :hehe:

I know.
I did it for TRS2004 and TRS2006.
Although I must say that Auran were more communicative during TRS2004 testing than they were during TRS2006 testing (Hope I haven't broken my NDA there :o)
Of course, there was a change of regime around then, so that could explain it.

I enjoyed it very much, but less so as the time went on (for various reasons).

Public beta testing (as was done for TRS2004, the NDA is years ago) is rather incorrectly named. It's more akin to play testing than trying to break the code. That tends to be done by specialist consultants rather than a group of (relatively) unqualified representative end users.

...which don't publicly exist...

8) Broke a .ja file, to a working host? Doubt....

Can you imagine a loose rework of the .ja file(lol)?

Not on the Web. Yet.

And, without direction, the product that brought us upon this space in the Cosmo, you have the other TrainSim's.

Go away for a vacation (431 kph maglev in Shanghai) and what happens, great news from Auran. So TRS is not dead, just sleeping.

Among the few posts about exporters, I didn't notice any confirmation that GMax will still be supported. OK, so it's not the latest and greatest, has a steep learning curve and is not the most user friendly. That and no official support by its developer is a pretty heavy burden but it does work and many people have spend long hours learning its various idiosyncrasies. Sure hope I will still be able to use it to quickly make simple objects for my custom routes.

As for overhauling CMP, I suggest taking a good look again at TO and how it works. I still think that was one of the reasons why many people are still using TRS2004. If CMP++ could combine the best of both, I would be there in a flash.

Just one more note about custom content by 3rd parties. If the design specs, CCG for 2009, could be released early enough so that new or modified content could be available when 2009 released, I think that would go a long way to ensuring its success. Nothing worse than having new features and abilities and not having extra content that can take advantage of them.

So congratulations on finding new ways to extend the franchise. It's been a great ride since 2002. :)

Well I took a few weeks away from the forum doing other stuff like homework and a storm chasing vacation only to come back to a totally exciting thread for a change.

I am so glad that Trainz will continue on with another installment and version. I knew deep down inside that Auran would servive the hurdle the organization went through last year.

Now to wait and see what transpires. Hopefully they'll be able to stay on track with he product development.

John

Shame Auran did not utilise Taff's services.:(

Hope he is regaining his health.

Good to see so many old dogs still around. Not sure where the Aug 23 thing came from - I think it is a data entry error on the website. We have been moving things around today so couldn't fix it, but the GM is with the printer so TC3 will be out this month!!!
Does this mean July 23 is an error as well?

Damn.

Tony saying it would be released this month wasn't a dream was it?
Another delay after this one, and we'll be at the original date, given as a mistake, of August.

See, you should never give out release dates.
Should have said Q3 2008, and then surprised us at the end of July.

Let's hope the delay is due to some of the suggestions made on this board, and not a gnarly bug that's hard to find.

Some more quick answers:

Vern - backwards compatibility is paramount. Our goal is that you can import a 2006 map (probably any version) seamlessly. From there it will be a matter of adding more detailed baseboards or updating existing ones. The challenge will be along the baseboard join and fixing this work is in progress right now so people will get to play with it in July.

HOG and Transdem are important and I like what I see with google earth. Support for these utilities is our goal although the cooler stuff (like making it really easy) is likely to have to wait until 2010.

It's probably going to be quite important to make a clear announcement on exactly what will be backward compatible. For example, we still have the situation where Trainz Classics buyers must purchase each version, if they need all the objects to run a route created by owners of all three TC editions. Not so long ago, a line was being drawn under TRS2004/TRS2006 and there is still no official support for importing the TRS2006 legacy content into TC.

Now if TRS2009/TS-X are going to retain backward compatability, one assumes that in addition to the legacy/default content from TRS2006 you are going to need to include the objects and rolling stock from the various Trainz Classics releases? Otherwise it could end up a mess as you will have all sorts of routes created in all different versions including those who thought TC was the fresh start, rather than the spur off the main line it now appears to be.

TRAINZ and Vista

I just hope that TRS2009 and Vista have no dramas:D

I was stupid enough, when the new comp came to have Visat and since then Trainz and me are no good. I have kept the old computer and it with XP is now officially my young Son's, so I only use it on occasions. :(

Only a complete rejig allowed some sensible using on the new comp and have major problems with graphics, suffice to say as an alternative to throwing one HP/Compaq in the pool I decided not to worry.

Count me in Auran as a BETA tester.:'(
