Alpha Issues with Foliage

Trainz Luvr since 2004
I've recently noticed issues with some of my favorite foliage by different authors. I've recently updated over 2,000 assets and I'm not sure if these kuids were part of that large update but maybe this might be the cause. The foliage in question seems to make objects directly behind them invisible when viewed up close. From a distance they have a sliver or reflective appearance. Here's some screenshots. Any ideas what might be causing this? I'm using TS2010 build 49933. Thanks for any help.

May I suggest, try changing between DirectX and OpenGL modes, and also try different anti-aliasing settings. Anti-aliasing can be found in the Display tab under the OpenGL and DirectX checkboxes.

I use DirectX mode and have anti-aliasing set to 4 and things aren't too bad, though of course they could be better. I am using TS2010 build 49933 as well.

There is a lot of issues between different versions of Trainz and between different settings (for videocards)/abilities of the actual videocard. What look good on one computer may look different in another. The vegetation look different if you change the settings in the texture files but I stick to the default settings as this gives the overall best performance/look in Ts 12. That only goes for my latest releases like the RM-1 and future releases. Previous set have different settings and have to be dealth with manually by the user as it's impossible to have dozens of file versions. Default settings do not always look best for Ts2010 and not always for TS12 (as one card/drivers/settings differ from another one when it comes to how it looks in game).

when T:ANE ships, I will most likely stick to default settings as this is the modus N3V use when developing/testing the game.

I advice you to try this:
==================
1. Open the asset in cmp
2. Locate the location(s) for the textures and open the texture file(s) in a text editing app.
3. You should keep the first 3 lines as they are.
4. Now, delete all lines UNDER the 3 first lines, from line#4 and down.
5. Save the changes and close, commit the modified asset .(ctrl+m)

You don't have to edit any bump mapped texture files (the ones with a "normal" prefix in the filename).

you might want to keep a backup of the original asset in case it look worse after modifying it so that you can
restore it.

The best way to get it look nice is to use default settings and try to adjust the settings on your videocard plus play with the settings in the option tab for video settings in Trainz. In addition try both OPEN GL and DIRECT X with different settings. There are no updates further than the v.41 I did when Ts 12 was updated to Sp1. V.41 or beyond is the final version.

Thank you everyone for your responses. Somehow my anti-aliasing setting was changed to 0 vs. 4. That was the culprit. They now look great.

Thanks Jan for your response and all your great content.
