AI question when using locos facing opposing directions

Bahh, maybe the title isn't very good.

I have a location in my route where the Class 1 AI controlled train will do an interchange with my company at an exchange siding. The AI will stop, uncouple from "x" cars and place them into a double ended double track siding. (my company interchanges from other end). It will drop on one track and pick up from the other. If using a single loco it works every time. BUT if I have a longer heavier consist,I use multiple locos. This fails every time. At the same point. Here is what it does. AI stops OK. Uncouples OK, pulls forward OK. backs off mainline OK. I stop it there to allow the throwing of the switch. When it starts again it will ALWAYS choose to continue into the wrong siding track. I've tried using a set junction / change direction / drive via track mark / anything I can think of. The only thing that seems to work is using the path rule and autodrive to force it onto the correct track. Its not complicated at all and only happens when using multiple locos facing in opposite directions. Any ideas?

Have you tried placing a drive-via track mark instead of a navigate-to track mark, or vice a versa a bit farther down your siding? Your track mark might be a bit too close to the junction and confusing the AI which isn't too difficult to do. Also...I too have noticed that they don't like to push consists very far and will go through great lengths to turn themselves around and face forward. They will drive okay if I place track marks close together, but if there's any distance involved, they do weird things. This is particularly frustrating with long sidings and commuter trains with a cab car on one end and the power on the other.

Drive to, Drive via, navigate to & via. All with the same result. But only with multiple loco's never single.

Sounds like the same bug that occurs when a train is operated backwards. Have you tried setting the direction of the train to a different direction before running?

Try command, couple to vehicle facing trackmark.
Put the t/m down in siding with pointy end facing where the wagons will be, name t/m.
Also have a permissive dwarf signal/ or invisible permissive signal near the start of the siding.
So the command would then be couple to vehicle facing trackmark x, x being the name of said t/m.

OK. I'll give that a shot. Thanks

Well??? Don't keep us waiting. I've been holding me breath! Report already! This is the kind of nugget which can end a lot of frustration in switching! // F
