Activating crossing signal

I downloaded the "Grade Xing NG OH 2L 1T W CWSL" on the DLS. I am able to add it to a layout but I am not able to get it to operate. When I drive the train through the crossing nothing happens, the lights on the signal remain off. Could someone tell me how to properly set it up?

Are you connecting the track to the crossing, or are you placing the crossing under your track?

You need to cut your track spline and connect the ends to the crossing in order to activate it.
