Are your running as administrator? Is this a Windows error or a Trainz error? What is the file path you are trying to install trainz to?

Yes running as adm I think its a trainz error my first post is the message Im getting Not really sure whatg file path is sorry. Thanks for the help.

Mark, welcome to the Trainz forums.

Have you run any disk diagnostics on your system? The download may have been okay, but you may have a problem with your hard disk particularly since you can't seem to repair your system with the factory disks. The timing may have been coincidental more than causitive. I had a similar incident happen to me awhile ago with my internet connection. While configuring a network router, a truck went by and pulled our cable connection down. I spent my time trying to figure out why the network wasn't working, thinking that I had messed something up. I only discovered the cable issue the next morning when I saw the cable on the ground!

Anyway, if your disk diagnostics indicate the drive is in fact bad, get your system repaired under warranty if you can.

Good luck,
John

File path: Where trainz is being installed on your computer. You have the option to change this in the installer. If you didn't change it, then it will be C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2006

Try changing it to C:\Auran\TRS2006

This may correct some access control bugs in Vista

Heres my story. I have Trainz Driver edition,TRS06,Trainz Classic witch I thought would have american RRs, and the complete collection. I get the same error when I try installing TRS06 from both regular TRS06 and the complete collection. All I want is to install trainz and move some freight. Been tring for a year its pissing me off. Can anyone help?

Mark,

Post the complete specifications of your PC online here including disks and available space. Your problem could be as simple as not enough room on your hard drive or perhaps a corrupted image file that you've downloaded. Again I would seriously check the integrity of your hard drive(s). You could very well have a bad disk that is giving you the read-only error.

  • If you're are running Vista, open up Computer
  • Right mouse-button click on your C: drive
  • Choose Properties from the contextual menu
  • Open up the Tools tab
  • Choose the first item on the list Error Checking.
  • Click on Check Now
You may or may not have to give permission to the program to run, and you may have to restart your computer.

The procedure is similar under WindowsXP, I no longer have or run XP on my computers so I can't tell you exactly what the procedure is.

Other tips when installing Trainz, no matter what version it is:

  • Make sure you unzip (extract) the download first before attmempting to run Setup.
This can be a problem for some installations programs. They get confused if run from the archive.

  • Turn your antivirus/anti-malware programs off. They can interfere with the installs.
  • Turn ALL other programs off that you may have open including your internet browser, email, P2P software.
  • Ensure you have enough disk space required to decompress the download images. You may have enough to hold the image, but not enough to decompress it to run the install.
Good luck and let us know your results. Please post your complete PC specs as this will help us diagnose your problem.

My com. specs are what TRS06 requires as my buddy who works at staples read right off the package when ordering my com. I bought this game players com just to move some frieght and a year later still no luck. I did have the 5 disk trs06 installed and could do the few activitys but couldnt download anything so uninstalled tried to follow the vista procedure and now either version right after serial # I get feature error. Thanks for the reply

clay516: Since you had been able to run trs2006 in the past, with the only problem at the time being of the inability to download from the DLS we have one known factor of the equation taken care of.

Your machine can and will run trs2006.
Moving on...

Who was it that installed it the first time, Was it your buddy at Staples?
If so could he have a look at it for you and try again.

Something, and most likely many things, on your computer has/have changed from the first time it was succeffuly installed and running. If your CD drive itself is faulty that COULD give the message you describe. As a test of your drive, you could make a folder on your local drive and then copy the entire contents of the first (of either version) disk and then try installing from there. If the while the copy process is taking place Windows comes up with 'crc error' , or 'unable to read from source' or a similar message then it could be that either the disk drive or the media itself could have a scratch. The latter being less likely since you have 2 different disk versions to work with.

Lets have you start with this for now. I hope you have succcess, if not, we will investiage further.

Well fuzzy I think we might get somewhere with this now that we have some of the details.

He may even have a permissions issue too if his friend installed the program under another account other than administrator or clay's own account.
