A Slight DEM request..?

LVman

Your Everyday ALCOholic
Heya All,
Now i know i havent been very well at actually producing a screenshot, but i keep my things until i have a very well detailed scene for a screenshot..
Anyway, if i could ask for a Slight DEM request..
I ask, that if someone could arrange the DEM of the Lehigh Valley Railroad's Naples Branch, all the way to Geneva, and Naples, and in Stanley, part of the PRR Elmira Branch to Canadiagua, And south of Naples, (just a road DEM) to Wayland.
I hate to ask for such a large request, but, it only seems like somewheres of 60-80 miles of track.
Would any of our DEM Veterans inqiure?
Thanks.
Sean

Couple of questions?

1) What counties in New York State are the routes in question Located in?

2) Are these lines active or have they been abandoned?

If abandoned I can deal with that. It would be a great help if you had county maps that showed these lines if they are abandoned.

The majority of the lines in question have been abandonded but are still there. Many, unfortenatly, have been torn up never to be seen again. My area of the line (Auburn Branch) is one of them.:(

I would love it if you could extend the line to the Auburn Branch but its rather a long distance. I will have to wait I guess....maybe a FGLK route would do me some fancy. *Goes to dig up some info on how to make a DEM map and what programs to use*:) :D

Cheers,
Adam

The route happens to be in the following counties:
Yates, Schyler, and Ontario.
All lines have been since abandoned, and the connection between Cohocton and Naples, was never there.. its just my own personal touch.
I'll work on a map and get it here soon.
Thanks.

EDIT*
Heres the map!
LVRCRouteMap.jpg

Red line is the Lehigh Valley's Naples Branch, to Geneva.
Blue is PRR Elmira branch to Canadaigua(please, if your to do that section, dont go directly into canandiagua, because it'd be a pain to model the city.)
Dark Green is my 'proposed connection' to Cohocton, and Lime green in Canandaigua is the FGLK.
@ Titaniclover-
Sorry mate, the Auburn Branch is WAAAAAAAAAY off from where the Naples Branch is.. that would have to be for some other time aha.
Cheers, and thanks again.

Let me see if I got this?

You want me to Dem the Lehigh Valley's Naples Branch?

Naples Branch Abandoned by 1985

MP 0.0 Naples
MP 2.4 Parrish
MP 4.7 West River
MP 9.2 Middlesex
MP 11.8 Valley View
MP 13.9 Rushville
MP 16.9 Granger
MP 19.8 Gorham
MP 21.9 Stanley
MP 24.7 Dixon
MP 28.0 Pre-emption
MP 29.4 Geneva Jct with LV Mainline to Buffalo and Van Etten

This could be difficult the tiger data from year 2000 probably is not going to have this branch if I use hog the baseboards won't be created for this area if there is no rail line if the cropping function is used. I''ll take a look at what is represented as soon as I finnish pinning down what we are doing here. I will have to draw this route on the overlay map most likely.

Pennsylvania Railroad
Williamsport & Elmira Division Abandoned by 1985

MP 224.9 Stanley
MP 228.6 Aloquin
MP 236.6 Canandaigua

It won't hurt to go into Canandaigua you might change your mind later in either case you can either delete the baseboard or paint it over. The two routes appear to cross each other and I think make a nice model railroad. I might be able to draw a railroad for you from Naples down to Cohocton does this cover it?

Yes, the Naples branch, and the section of the PRR Elmira Branch to the outskirts of Canandiagua, as well as a road DEM south from Naples to Cohocton(which has active lines to Wayland) because its like a shortline i want to create.
Thanks for the reply.
Cheers.

ONCT is practically LV mainline.. Or whats left of it ahah..
There isnt enough power really for ethier of the 2 railroads, since no GEs have been made, and no RS32 has been made ethier. You could get away with using 1702 for the fingerlakes, and the Golden Spike Rail Services SW9 for the ONCT.. but why would you? since the ONCT is basically FGLK now..
ahah

Just checked. MS Terra Server, featuring slightly older editions of USGS 1:24k topo maps, shows the old right-of-way between Geneva and Stanley (and presumably most of the other bits of the lines in question).

Yes, thank you very much HSSrail. I ask for this DEM because i live in a small town where the naples Branch Passed through, and as a life dream, i always though about rebuilding these sections of track in real life as a real shortline. If you could draw to Cohocton, that'd save me some time, but if not, i wouldnt mind at all. Thanks again for the help guys.
@Geophil-
The line is highly Visible south Of stanley, its just hard to notice until you find that odd section of treegrowth. From Cayward Cross to Naples, the line is clear, and should appear on a USG map very nicely, but, since i havent done much DEM work myself, i wouldnt exactly know.
Thanks again to everybody.
Cheers.

Processing your request.

A couple of thoughts.

Most of the routes that Fishlipps at work did are lines that are currently active. While there are Trainzers on this site that are rail historians a lot of the route builders prefer current stuff.

Doing abandoned railroad routes is the domain of someone in the railroad history category. In other words don't count on routes of this nature being on the download station, never hurts to check though before making a request.

Many Thanks HSSrail. Yes, i have looked on the DLS for something similar, but didnt find what i was exactly after. I notice the FGLK DEMs, but those arent quite what i am after..
Thanks though.
Cheers.

I tigered all the counties you originally submitted not sure if I made it to Cohocton? The non existant track is denoted below Naples when in surveyor you can look at the Mini-Map and you will see in Cyan "To Cohocton. Naples, Stanley and Geneva, Ny are noted in red by adjusting the magnification you will be able to see my labels this will help in orienting yourself to the route.

Segments of the above routes were severely obliterated by the passing of years I did the best I could in locating the railroad alignment feel free to correct any errors that you notice I believe that I am 85% correct on the railroad alignments.

I can't E-Mail you the LVMAN.gnd file do you have a website I can upload this to or E-Mail me an address and I'll mail it to you on CD Rom.

I assume you are using Trainz 2004

Create a route called LVMAN in Trainz Surveyor. Exit Trainz

You will need to go into the Program files and find your Auran Directory go into that and find I believe Mapdata go into the route LVMAN and replace the Gnd file with the one I am sending you.

Please advise how I did?

Best Wishes

Howard
