A really useful website for those interested in bridges

It gives the dimensions of the bridges, historical information, and has some nice photos. I came across this looking for some information on a bridge that's being replaced down the street from me and one that is being rebuilt. :)

Here are the bridges I was looking for:

http://www.historicbridges.org/bridges/browser/?bridgebrowser=massachusetts/rocksvillage/ --- really cool one-of-a-kind multiple kinds of bridges including pony trusses, Pennsylvania Truss, Warren, and even a lift bridge. It's one of the oldest of its kind in the US.

The other is sadly going to be demolished due to neglect. This is the Groveland bridge (Bates Bridge).

Where the crane is on the other side is the new one going in. It's a typical boring concrete one that will have a lift span. The old one is a swing span.

John, many thanks for the link. Bookmarked the site and started looking at bridges from when I was growing up in Detroit. They still look like they did in the sixties and seventies! Nice trip back in time.

Hi Jeff,

I've been doing the same. I've gotten lost looking at other bridges too not just in my local area but those up in Maine and New Hampshire. Sadly a lot of the more unique ones are scheduled for demolition for no reason at all just like the original Groveland Street bridge located a mile from my house.
