A New Dimension in Model Railroads

Out of interest Mike, is there any way the programme could be adapted to paint the plan on the baseboard tiles using texture, similar to Transdem, rather than using the objects?

To Tony Hilliam,
N3V create a new product to keep the money rolling in, i can understand why! but Why wouldn't N3V create an expansion pack for Tane and not being part of Tane SP2, a stand alone Service Pack, you would have a far greater amount of people wanting to buy the Service Pack lets say call T.A.N.E Expansion 2017 rather than a stand alone game that really offers nothing more to Tane owners now.
There is still a number of promises that have not been completed and full filled in Tane that were stated would be there in the pledging process
Naming SLI / Crossfire not to mention all the pre set targets layed out by N3V.
Sometimes creating a new product seems to be the way to go but in this case i hope i am wrong it can be a costly mistake.
Expansion Packs for Tane could have reached a far greater fan base and also helping people to move from TS12 to Tane, Massively creating more funds for N3V.
Not to mention reaching people who play other games raising there interest in N3V product line
You guys said that Tane was the future of Trainz
Maybe Expansion Packs should contain
Total weather control of each base map
Army NAVY Airforce
Asset movement ability as 1 or as multi assets
The ability to destroy Bridges or other assets over a set time frame
Farm land growth over time frames set via seasonal means
the measure of expansion Packs is endless, so to would the profit to N3V
If N3V would take the time to listen to the general public there profit margin would be far greater
My view is my own

I am for anything that generates money to fix the thing that is TRAINZ, now TANE. I can't wait until SP2, just hope they fix a bunch of buggy things. It seems that TRAINZ is becoming more stable year after year, and the finished product is coming closer by the day. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have no plans to implement that feature in this software. It is strictly aimed at producing basemap objects.

Hi Steve. I'm not sure I follow your point or perhaps you misunderstood our announcement.

The TMR routes will be available to TANE users either individually or in a bundle - so that is effectively the expansion pack you are talking about (I think?). Yes you have to upgrade to SP2 first (for free) but that is a painless process and will bring long term benefits (like ongoing updates).

As far as Kickstarter is concerned, I believe we have covered everything laid out in the campaign. Sure there were "Stretch Goals" that have not yet been implemented, but that is because the funds were not pledged to reach the stretch goals. Please start a new topic regarding that topic if you wish in the General forum since this thread is about Model Railroads. Thanks.

Trainz has struggled to throw off the "model railway" stigma for nearly 15 years (I bought CE in 2001).
So now you go and do this
You have misunderstood the concept of branding. Saying what a brand is not is often as important as saying what it is. Introducing a spin off that is targeted at a particular market is a very effective way of shifting the focus of your main product away from that market, and therefore making it more distinctive in its own primary market.

Hi Tony
Please don't misunderstand i believe that TANE is the best Railway Simulator by far and has the capability to be far more.
The Expansion Packs i refer to could be extension of the game TANE in general areas much like Shipping or transport with a War Expansion Pack for those to who wish to go in that direction in the game, otherwise you don't buy that extension and you don't then have the assets nor the ability to go down that path with the game.
Lets just say people who are out there that like War sims could buy the TANE sim and the War extension pack also maybe Transport and Shipping plus Aviation Packs,
plus you could have Infantry Packs that allow movement of troops around a Route sold by N3V or other Payware creators.
Now all of a sudden you have a far great fan base, we already have the greatest railway Simulator in TANE!
Why not really concrete the future and cover near all bases in gaming.

Now as far as SLI/Crossfire goes this was not stated in KickStarter campaign, it was stated on the open forum while the KickStarter Campaign was happening, it was said that SLI/Crossfire codes were not hard to add basically and would be add to the game of TANE and people pledging money were to believe it would be in the first release version.
I do have every Post within the Thread in question at home on my main computer.
You may notice Tony that there is 1 or 2 people in this thread asking about upgrading computers to run TANE, this would not be needed to a great extent if SLI/Crossfire had been added to TANE, only a matching video card to get about 1/3 to 1/2 to 3/4 more out of the said computer depending on the weakest piece of hardware in the computer in question
Thanks for your time Tony as i know you are a busy man.

Steve, some interesting points but I do have a couple of observations/questions.

The Expansion Packs you suggest (War Pack, Transport and Shipping, Aviation - and there are probably others that could be added to this list) would have to be made up of new assets, not those already on the DLS, otherwise why would anyone want to pay for them? From what I have seen on the DLS over the many years I have been using Trainz, there is already a great number of these assets available for free download - perhaps more in the areas of aircraft, marine and trucking than military - but nevertheless a significant number. Would there be a sufficient market size (and price would be an obvious factor here) for N3V to warrant the expense of contracting creators to create these assets (if that is how they do it) or sufficient potential return for the creators via royalty payments from DLC sales?

Perhaps a better option would be to devise some way of more easily identifying these specialised assets on the DLS. The current woeful system has been the subject of many frustration posts in these forums.

I have my doubts that Trainzers would be really interested in adding aircraft, trucking or shipping (much less military) simulators to their railway simulator - particularly when there are already dedicated aircraft, truck and ship simulators available - and I doubt any of those include a "Train Expansion Pack". But I am prepared to be proven wrong.

I had to upgrade my computer to run T:ANE - my 32 bit system was not able to run dual video cards.

Hi Peter,
I understand your point of view but when TANE was released and most other version of Trainz for that matter there was that many assets that could not be used and all had to be repaired in one way or another by there creators or 3rd parties or N3V, now for what i am saying most assets a in TANE could not be converted anyway because of being fixed assets it would only be for new assets or assets drivable either way the major majority of assets would still be in the game ready to use, i would imagine it would really be no different to loading people on a train appossed to a tank or machine gun on a flatbed car, the difference is that the machine gun could fire at a plane troops or ship causing damage or it could be damaged its self
At the moment there is only a limited amount of movable people in TANE and also most war game these days are turn based and not like lets say the first installment of Empire Earth which would be the way to gowithout turnbase
The guts of TANE is the creators of assets and i don't believe that N3V would lose creators just because of a few other adjustments to assets to get them to do what is asked of them that would make the game far greater.
As for marketing, name a time when war has never sold and generated money, but war would not be the only expansion Pack there could be unlimited others, you could market it like Stretch Goals

As for money to creators or N3V even now TANE SP2 should not be for free, it should be for at least $2.00 to $5.00 per digital download or disk $10.00 + postage
How they work out who gets what out of new assets created for what i am saying, Give me time to think about that, i am sure there is a very simple way around it.

Hi Steve,

You know, that's a bargain!

Funny thing about it, tho, folks will still complaint about the 2 dollars!

Kind Regards
Ish

Looking at the way their patching system works, I cannot foresee them being able to charge for what will be a patch in digital form (and they already charge for disc versions).

Shane

Many years ago Ish i was the President of a Snooker club and what we found is, the ones who you couldn't get a $1.00 out of for a meat raffle to raise money for the club were the ones that did most of the complaining and never shut the hell up, nor would they ever put there hands up to be on the committee or help in any way
steve

Why can't they just place a download Service Pack button where all other Trainz products are sold at Shane with a $2.00 to $5.00 price to access
Its not hard to do
steve

They could do (and I'd be happy enough to pay for it) but that would also be unprecedented as all previous patches and service packs (not including disc versions) have been free so far.

Shane

Shane N3V has been pretty good with all there Service patches and random updates, the Trainz community has been spoilt.
I have run a business for over 33 years and every year i have made money, sometimes i do things for no money but the under line profit is there its only my time i lose on.
In Australia 98.4% of small Businesses fail within the first year or 2
N3V must make money no matter what, and when times get tough, things must change.
This doesn't mean that there cannot be a sweet spot and i think $2.00 to $5.00 is the sweet spot unless you wanted a disk.
Many people want many assets put in TANE and many things changed but were not willing to donate to the Kickstarter raffle so to say.
Nobody wishes to ever see N3V fold but for the compeditors, but we have the best Railway Simulator in the world
BUT the train sometime needs to stop and refuel, and here is where we the supporter the community need to get behind them and pay our way.
Regards steve123

Indeed (I think that's partly why there are First Class Tickets) although I'm not too sure how the logistical side will work particularly as Steam as well as Mac builds will need to be taken into account as well.

Shane

Sorry but some people really are deluded if they think N3V should charge for patching and fixing their own broken program.

Get real, for god's sake.

So Vern at what stage is something fixed and not broken to your understanding,

and couldn't deluded fall into the category of backing a new program when the one before is still broken according to your understanding.

If you read back a few posts you are supporting the new 2017 Trainz Now that real wisdom on top of logical thinking
The only difference between TANE SP1 and the 2017 is the routes in 2017 that TANE owners can buy anyway,
So where is the logic in me or other TANE owners buying the new product it serves no purpose apart from giving N3V money for a new raffle which clearly you don't wish to support.
I myself would support N3V but only for making TANE better
steve
