Well, like you I have problems with timing and everything. Just today I missed the N&W unit & the OCS returning from the Derby.

I use Trainorders.com (Eastern Railroad Discussion)

It all depends on what trains they are on too. Remember that Pittsburgh has 3 lines diverging in the city. The Mon Line, Conemaugh Line, and Pittsburgh line. Any Doublestack intermodial will take the Mon Line, along with most Coal trains. Heavy freights take the Conemaugh line, and everything else takes the Pittsburgh line. May I ask what neighborhood of Pittsburgh you live in as to suggest where to watch from? CP Wing at the end of Pitcarin yard is an excellent spot for most trains if you are toarwds that end, whilst if you are on the Fort Wayne line, I suggest CP Leets in Leetsdale. I am a Pittsburgher just like you, and I know the area rail lines in and out. Hope I was of help.

I would go with the Mon Line for a majority of heritage units BTW. The coalfields south of Brownsville are prime for the AC units.

i live a short walk away from the mon incline on mnt Washington , so i live by the mon line, but i know my way around and i have no problem leaving 2 hours early and waiting for the train, but im a fairly new railfanner, so yeah im not that great at this. i dont usually care to catch trains at the csx line at station square, because im not a csx fan but i did see yesterday that they look to be adding a third track by station square. I have rail-fanned at Penn union station, and north shore but im always rail-fanning on south side on the ped crossing walk overs because i can get my friends to chill and watch there too, and yes all i see there is double stacks, but ill try the cp wing i know were that is thanks snaps!
