A Brake Check (Hehehe)

Thank you Trainz Driver for telling me vital info on brakes in cab mode. If I remember:
Independent=Locomotive ONLY
Train Brake=Entire Train
Dynamic=For Them Silly Hillz

Did i get it right? If so, I can actually not burn brakes at the top...

You got most of it.

Train Brake is also known as "Automatic Brake"

And according to a NS driver friend of mine, you use the dynamics first (always), then Independent, and the Automatic LAST. Seems to be a rule to reduce wear on the brake shoes. This includes YARD movements.

I was able to bring a 40mph long freight (walong stall) to a halt with the dynamics and hit the independent at about 3-4mph. I didn't set the train brake until I was stopped.

Just be careful with the dynamic and independent brake systems if you are also using the coupler breakage rules, because those systems put a fair bit of extra stress on the couplers ...

I found that just like the throttle, the dynamics have to be applied gradually - don't just push it up to 11. Of course if you are in a condition where you feel compelled to shove it all the way up, you're in trouble and should hit the train brake.

Of course in the real world, SPAD and you are out of a job.

As soon after I read the first reply, I went on Trainz Driver and stopped a heavy freight at the red sign with the coupler touching the post. I'm like "I JUST learned how to use the brakes properly, and this is what happens? I had to go into emergency!" and then I was ranting on and on about how good my "pro" emergency skills were. LOL
