3d modellers - Anyone willing to provide me with an example steam train mesh?

Hi,
I've been asked by someone to create a steam train for them, and while I'm not too bad at modelling, the actual layout of the model for Trainz is proving difficult to find new tutorials for.

I was therefore wondering if someone who has created a steam train for TS2009 or even TS2010 would be willing to provide it in its raw state, so that I might have a look and see for example, how many materials we're allowed per item, which items have to be combined, which need to be seperate for the animations, what kind of maps we can use (specular, normal, alpha etc) and so forth.

If anyone would be willing to provide one, then could you upload it somewhere for me in .obj, .3ds or .fbx format? or if anyone knows of any websites that I've failed to find with such an example model on them, or a really good, clear up to date tutorial that'd be great.

Thanks for any assistance,
Chief :)

Does it have to be a steam loco? I have a shunter you can look at that uses rodded wheel arrangements, there isn't really much difference between the 2, except the sounds.

Sorry to beg wessex, but i don't suppose you, or anyone else, has a model i could have a go at changing, as i have just started GMAX myself, and i'm looking to have a go at altering models, aswell as making buildings, and eventually, my own locos

If the only difference between a shunter and a steam engine mesh are the sounds then that would be great - thanks :) (I expected all sorts of differences between a steam and diesel engine meshes is why I asked for a steam engine specifically).

Paul Hobbs web site, Blender tutorial is a steam loco and I think he includes sample files.

Ah, I forgot about that tutorial series, I see its been enhanced somewhat since I last checked it out, thanks for linking me to it:)

There is also the UP SD40-2 model of TS09/10 as an example in the DevWiki somewhere with meshes, textures etc. but this is in a .max format for 3DS Max9. Perhaps someone can convert this for you into a 3ds format if required.

To access the DevWiki, one needs to register at the Dev Forum here and search the DevWiki for the example. The usual rules for its use (or rather its non use) and examining this mesh apply.

Cheers

I found something like that the other day on the wiki, however I was only ever able to find the bogeys for the model which didnt help me much.

(Had to install a 3ds max trial to open the max files, planning on a pc wipe soon so won't have max around much longer).

Have a look under Tutorials and gMax Goodies in the Trainz Resources Directory. Someone has put some sugar cane locomotives and over stuff there for you to use. If you're thinking Blender, Paul's tutorials as mentioned by John Whelan are there, plus dozens of others.
