Shane, that's a good point. Do we have a moderator here to help us with this kind of stuff or do we need to submit a help desk ticket?
I know I'm researching a problem and that's when the negatives of a product are found...but man I'm not seeing many positives about this product. I like trains and all that but if this software is faulty and they don't take care of their customers then why should they benefit? Hope it's worth the hastle.
Serial number will be at the bottom of your invoice, thats Profile > Order History > Click on the Invoice number. If it's the disk version you are having problems with just copy the contents to the hard drive and run the install from there, usually works OK.
Serial number needs to be input when installing and also in your account, click serial number at the top of the forum.
Nothing major wrong with 2010 by the way, so long as if you are running Vista or Win7 Home Premium, you install, patch and run as Administrator, that's right click "Run as Administrator" or to make it permanent Right Click > Properties > Compatibility > Run as Administrator.
Preferably do not put it in the default location of Program Files, put it in it's own folder, C:\Auran is OK on another drive probably better.
Running from an Admin account alone will not be sufficient, you need to run as admin as well. Blame Microsoft.
You may also need to disable Antivirus and anything else that scans on access as this can slow down Installing and patching and may cause it to fail. Blame interfering Antivirus programs.
Pitfalls others have had is getting impatient and cancelling installs and patches before they have finished.
Trainz has a somewhat unusual format in that it has a very large database which needs in some cases a long time to update / repair after installing or patching. This depends on your PC and how many assets you have added, it can take anything from half an hour to several hours.
If you need to patch, you may not depending on the version number, the progress bar always sticks half way, patching has normally not stopped, it starts moving again in the last few minutes.
Interrupting a patch while patching will corrupt your install and you will have to install from scratch again.
Running other programs at the same time as patching is also not a good idea.
Avoid the Autopatcher if Win7 / Vista as this often fails, I suspect as its automatic you can't run it as Admin, use the manual patches available from the announcements forum.
If in doubt as to whether the patcher is still working, check task manager for TadDaemon and TrainzUtil and see if they are showing signs of activity, or watch the HD disk indicator.
Negative posts? Happy people don't go to forums to complain, many of us are quite happy with 2010.
Helpdesk is probably out of circulation at present due to N3V being based near Brisbane which is currently under water.
