2009 Route Building Competion.

Layout or route, it really doesn't matter.
I went with 5X2 to give our younger members more of a shot.

Routes will be judged with a minimum of 10 screenshots.
This will prevent us from delays due to downloading dependencies that we may not have.
Thank You for your understanding.
I hope to make next years competition a little more organized.;)

Cheers and Good Luck,
Woody

hmm, is it possible to enter a section of a route, jst im planning on a large route, but the whole route wont be done by then, however a section which meets the requirements would, if so ill enter ^^.

Hi sorry to requote my post but question wasnt answered ^^.

That will be fine,
We prefer that you use a complete route, but I'll make the rules more strict next year when everyone has a feel for the contest.

Ok, thankyou for the reply, ill still enter i guess its a bit of fun, but the whole route wont be finished, i guess its another year and a half before its finished ^^, but ill give it a good go :).

Sorry if I'm dense, but I'm still confused about whether you're downloading the route to judge or not. If you are, why are the screenshots necessary? You'll have the entire route to look at. If you're not downloading the route and only judging the route by the screenshots, then this is really just a screenshot contest. Screenshots cannot give you a clue about how well the route runs and I would think that would be a consideration of judging a route.

Next year the rules could be that you must build a route and submit it to the judges and all kuids must be included.

thanks for the reply. It appears that this is just another screenshot contest under the guise of a route contest. If that's what you want, that's fine. Good luck with your contest.

Actually Mike, its a route building contest, but we must judge with screenshots because not all of us own TS2009, we also skip the middle man, downloading dependencies, I think we can judge the route by good "vast area" screenshots.
It will work.
Like I said, next years contest will be more organized, few know how hectic this is!

Might I suggest before you get too far that you make some guidelines. Maybe pick 2 themes that could be chosen from to build one. Obviously the region and era should be free since trainzers come from every where and every age. Or if not themes, maybe make a standard size that's not too crazy. It still seems like a screenie contest, but if you limit the size, the more the route could been shown in full for your contest.

The idea of a route building contest is a great one.
If I might offer a suggestion, why not break it into categories? For example, we could have a narrow gauge category, passenger category, etc.

That's okay Woody. I'm not trying to criticize. I just see it differently.

It is entirely possible for a route author to select all the required dependencies for their route and put it into a nice .cdp file for the judges. Considering all the administrative work they have to do organizing the competition, I personally feel that is not a very big trouble to participate in the contest. I can provide temporary hosting for some people who do not have facility to host large files. By using some clever techniques, it is entirely possible to create a feeling of vastness using not alot of anything.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.
