Hi there Fellas,

Can anybody advise, I'm trying to use a color effect on my route, however - once vector32 is selected, the whole route fades.

Thanks

I have occasionally used the color effect layer (only available in Trainz Plus when using HDT) but I have never touched the Color Binding setting (I could not find any information on what it does so I left it alone)

Check the following wiki references - Edit_Color_Effect_Layer and Paint_Color_Effect_Layer

This is a 129139, so - Trainz+ HDT. I didn't change the default settings, it does work only with vector32

The very next moment I select Vector32 - it turns dark and it is not working using any other binding options.

I did some experimenting and found the following:-
  • leave the Color Binding at vector32
  • leave the default colour values at 0.500, 0.500, 0.500 (grey) - if you change this then the entire water effect layer will change to the set default colour (which I noticed also made the entire layout darker)
After that it worked as I had expected. You select the colour to paint in each area from the Color control in the Tool Options Palette.

I did some research as well, it looks like it is route-specific, as long as I have previously had water and color layers within the route and been deleting and adding these. Now I have created a new test route, converted to HDT and the color effect is working as it supposed to be. It also works fine on the route without water layer ( temporary ).

N3V QA got back to me on my "bug" report.

There has been no change, it looks as though you are not using a mid-grey default value. This will result in the colour effect layer having the default colour and applying this colour tint to the whole route, as per the screenshot provided.

You will want to use 0.5, 0.5, 0.5 as the default value. This will apply a neutral color effect to the whole route. The default of 0.5, 0.5, 0.5 is effectively an invisible tint which after being applied to the whole route, can be targeted and adjusted using the color tool option and selecting the color effect layer.

So it looks like leave the Default values at 0.500 for all 3 colours to give you an invisible color effect layer which you can then paint with selected colours via the brush tool and the tool options palette color selector.

Thanks a lot for troubleshooting, however - I was not changing the pattern and left it as 0.5/0.5/0.5 ( you can refer to the snap posted above ). It is only related to a test route, where I was adding/deleting color/water layers. All of the other routes are ok.

In order to save the amount of threads, Can I ask one related question here please.

I have seen a color effect radius setup as 0.5 m in HDT promo video on YT, however - it is not possible to set any value lower than 5.0 m and the effect is painting a way too wide area.

There is nothing mentioned within trainz-wiki on that.

Here is a snap of an error, can anybody elaborate what that supposed to mean? And how do you guys reached 0.5 m radius? What is the remedy?

Thanks

I was unable to find the video but can confirm that the minimum brush radius for the color effect layer is 5m for unrestricted painting. If you set a smaller brush radius then the brush will have the same restrictions as when painting a texture with a small brush in a 10m resolution route. The details are on the Wiki at How_to_Use_S20_Tools#Ground_Textures_in_5m/10m_Resolutions.

I have tested the Default value settings and can confirm that leaving all 3 of them at 0.500 creating a neutral grey colour makes the color effect layer invisible.
