10 years of the forums!

I put this in 2 days late, but oh well.

For those that don't know, August 1st 2000 (When the old forum was up), is the start date (according to many resources) when the Trainz forum went live.
And just for more proof, heres when John Banks (For those who remember him - where is he now?) joined. https://www.auran.com/planetauran/view_profile.php?ViewingID=04&menuchoice=community Do consider, some people are a day out, as Planet Auran runs on AEST time I believe, whereas the forums run on GMT time which is about 10 - 12 hours difference.

Unfortunately, the original forums contained much more interesting bits than the new one, (yes, the forums were wiped out 3-4 years ago by a HD disaster) we can't do a check on joined dates or even look at some really, really, really old posts.

One thing I would say that is a remarkable achieve for Auran, is to start a product, market it, update it and 9-10 years later, its still going even stronger than when its started. And how many games do you know, has actually lasted that long? And continuously without changing developers? For custom content, what about stuff from Trainz 1.0 (Which is very old now), that still works in TS2010? I really cannot think of anything. Again, that is I think, a remarkable achievement in itself.

Agreed, and then take into consideration things such as the millions of free assets available from the download station!! how many other games have that? with most games, you either make do with the built - in assets or pay out ridiculous amounts for more stuff - with trainz you can do that for free!!

Also, like you said, how many other games have been going and developing for 10 years? CERTAINLY not railworks or MSTS *shudders*

So, yes it has it's ups and downs, but hats off to auran, for creating, and updating a truly great product

Thanks Auran!

9 Years for me in a couple days....

Congrats WEN.

It has been a great ride on the forums, and we both have seen many changes in N3V/Auran staff and users who come into the forums, stay and while, then leave.

While the current forums have been somewhat fractured due to the September 2010 plan to limit the DLS, it is still a viable source of information to new users.

My thanks to all the content creators over the past 9~10 years.

Have fun,

Congratulations to Auran on such a wonderful 10 years of enjoyment I/we have all had. As said, there are not many companies in today's Computer "game/hobby" World that survive so long.

I was going to post on August 1st that August seems to be a month I often see people have joined in. I am coming up to 8 years at the end of the month and it has been great fun.

Oh, and my Monkey (as I call him) has enjoyed the ride too :hehe:

It is quite remarkable the forums has survived this long, and that some posters have lasted that long, or almost that long as well. I heartily commend anyone who feels significant in either regard.

Ten years already?

It sure has been a great ride. Congratulations to Auran for sticking with it and for giving us a place to hang out when not in game. Congratulations also to everyone who has contributed over the years. :) Not only has this been a great Trainz community but on a people level, it has also been wonderful as we shared some of the joys as well as the tragedies in our lives.

A toast to those still here and to those who are no longer with us.

Same Here

Although I've been on this forum for only a few months, I first played trainz a few years way back in 2002 i believe when I first used UTC and by 2005 I think I eventually started using TRS2006 and every since then.

I take my hats off to auran for making the best simulator that helped me to be inspired to make Nick the Steam engine and Friends.:)
