'09 Dilemma

Confused
Seeing all the 'advantages' of '09 dotted around the forums and the website, I need some help on the matter of whether to get the latest version of or not.

I have Trainz on 2 machines: '06 and TC3 on one and TC3 on the other. The former is a Windows Vista: it crashes occasionally, however is relatively high spec. The latter is a Windows 2000, which isn't so high-spec, but runs TC3 well, albiet on low draw distances and poly counts.

Said computer has a 2.66GHz Processer, 256mb NVidia Gforce 5500 graphics card and 512MB ram.

Now the Dilemma:

For this Windows 2000 machine, would '09 work better than '06? Will '09 work on this machine? Should I not buy '09, but put '06 on this computer?

Help would be appreicated,

Osq7.

What're the specs of the Vista computer? Since you already have this high-spec machine, why hesitate putting 09 in it?? In fact, why not have everything in it? Using your old computer when you have a high performance one doesn't make sense.

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

TS2009 shows more improvement on dual or quad core machines. It's also useful for creating content.

I might upgrade to Win 7 on the performance side from Vista, I think the UK upgrade price isn't bad.

I don't think TS2009 is supported on Win 2000 and I'd probably suggest dumping the win 2000 machine, I don't think it's really secure enough for the Internet these days.

Based upon the quoted configuration, and the available information, which lacks anything more about the processor than the clock speed. I think the chances that 2009 was tested under Windows 2k are somewhat less than the chance that 2006 was, and since TC3 already works on the machine I have more confidence that 2006 will work on the WIN 2k machine than 2009. So, if it were me, I'd move your 2006 installation to the computer with Windows 2000, and assuming your "higher spec" machine meets 2009 requirements, install 2009 there.
