04/06 content creators read this!

might be back?
Well guys, at least there was a warning of a few months. From what I can tell, the 04/06 content creators are going to be abandoned no matter how much people are against it, so I think that it is time to start working on a contingency plan.

The two options that are probably going to be left to abandoned creators will be to either buy a version of TRS that you probably don't want, or move to a 3rd party site with your content. I predict that the later will probably be the norm.

Since this is the case, finding dependencies for routes is going to get really difficult and time consuming. Because of this, I think that a good idea when the time comes would be to try and consolidate the 3rd party sites that people will upload to. Rather than many third party sites going on line when September comes around, it would probably be best to have a site or two where people can upload to. Sort of like a 3rd party DLS. That way the content creators can have a centralized place to upload to, and people can find their content easier, rather than the creators being scattered to the winds, or forced to give up their work since they have nowhere to go.

No need to fear on this, dear JB.

Keep calm. ;)

We, the old ones, the veteran ones, the classical ones, the more-than-seven-year-old ones, are here to stay... and you all know where we all are. ;)

The staying side of Alberte

I hate the fact that the great simulator of TRS2006 is going down. I just wish the Download Station would still be a free thing. Not First Class Ticket only. The good news it that it's not until September, so people, make the most of that DLS! I suggest people start giving dependencies packs available with their routes. I already have my hornsounds available third party. I'm thinking on moving PROJECT: N&W to the same status.

Curse you Auran! Hehe... No, I wouldn't be that mean. (Okay, maybe, but I see your plan.)

Cheers,
Joshua

Sadly, the permission aspect makes the dependency pack a problem.

Oh, and people are already hitting the DLS hard. The server is constantly full, just like it was on TRS2010 launch day.

Nothing to stop creators uploading the same asset as build 2 to a 3rd party site, and build 2.7 to the DLS... I might even be persuaded if there's any demand...

Good points, Alex. I think you're right about what will happen. The present Auran staff has lost sight of who really creates Trainz. It's the content creators, who have been working for free these many years, that are the heart and soul of Trainz. They will be the ones who decide on the direction it will take.

Cheers,
Fred

Anyone want to bet they will keep on selling 04/06/tc right up until the September deadline?

They pulled everything older than 09 from the on line store within the last two days. I checked two days ago as I was considering a back up for 06 and 04.

I really feel sorry for those just getting into this with older versions. There are still quite a few copies for sale out there and this isn't the first stop for buyers. Imagine the delight and repeat business when someone who just bought 06 or 04 from Amazon and tries to access the DLS.

Dave....

G'Day, just looked in the Auran shop and there now is only TRS2009 up. But 16 days ago when I bought Trainz Collection (UTC, TRS2004 & 6, Trainz PaintShed and Trainz Routes 1 to4) everything was still available. I planned to get my hand in with this then move up in 6 to12 months once I could afford a better PC, but now I don,t know. Would it not be better to bring out some content packs for the current version for a couple of years and service packs then every 3rd or 4th year bring out a new version. There is no way I am buying a new version each year especially if it has mostly the same content as the previous version.
Regards
Barrie

No, I looked at the Auran shop - they've pulled the old product (though I think that's recent).

Does any one know if the Auran art source disk is still available?
I can't find it anywhere on the webpage.

Cheers,
Bill69

I was only as a Digital down load for the last 18 months but since it was a 2004 era product it could be gone.

Addit----> yes it has gone

Remember chaps, that now TRS2004 and TS2006 etc are now collectable items !!!

Now where is my ebay account LOL

The methodology of Auran is correct, free up the DLS from old redundant (and often faulty) content.

Really all creators should us this opportunity to upgrade their content (even if only changing Trainz-version number) and correct the errors that the DLS finds. That way we can all move forward.

Also there are many thousands of illegal copies out there, loading the DLS for no return to Auran. This will cease and make the DLS faster for us all.

Some of us don't have the option of upgrading to TS2010 as it requires XP SP3 which only runs on my laptop. My main PC will not run SP3 so that about wraps up any involvement for me with Auran.

Anyone know of ways of stopping TRS2004/2006 content running on the latest versions that can't be immediately bypassed by PEV's tools? Fair is fair - if I can't use the latest versions and am banned from the DLS why should they be able to use my content ?

bird ... usually the problems with older content is cosmetic, missing thumbnails, missing license and minor glitches in the understanding of the Content Creators Manual

I have just d/l a small route, and found errors with some 100 items, easily fixed in general, but wouldnt show up on the route.

Auran created the Content Creators Manuals with rules and guides, in most cases these have been ignored or misunderstood by creators. TS2010 will gripe about these which is fair.

Give me a list of KUID's and I will check them

BTW MS is dropping support of older OP systems too !!! So maybe time to upgrade
