04/06 content creators read this!

If Auran proceeds with doing this, then I will not buy their product again.

At this stage, I really don't think they care if you (or I for that matter) buy another version. As long as they have the "faithful" to keep buying and spreading the word, why do they need you or I.
I've been faithful over the years with buying UTC, 04, 06 and 09. I've been quite critical at times through the years as well. When it's all boiled down though, I respect those at Auran that I have spoken to personally. They are a good bunch of people doing what they are allowed to do. Yes, I said allowed to do.
My choice as to creating and what version I like the best doesn't mean I want to see Trainz go away. I've met and come to know alot of great people via Trainz. Including some of the current and past Auranites.

Now if they can just fix the damn alpha texturing issue, 09 would be perfect for me.

I don't have 09 on any machines any more, but this was largely fixed in 2010. I believe you need to have anti-aliasing set to 4x, though. SP3 for '09 might have brought this fix back to '09? Agreed that it's a pain in the (*&%(*% :)

This is the way of things - the way of the force...Trainz will become something like RailWorks.

They crank out a new "game", you buy the "game", install it and you "play" until you're bored with it, uninstall, then you buy another "game" and so on.

The "gaming" industry. No time for simulators any longer. Not enough revenues short term.

I submit that there are a lot of us that don't agree with that statement.

Agreed.

I own '04, '06, and '09.

Currently, TRS2006 is the only one that's not sitting on the shelf gathering dust. I don't know if it was the switch to Vista or finally abandoning my ancient Soundblaster Live, but the sounds don't seem to mess up as badly as they used to.

I admit, I didn't give 2009 much of a chance, but since I use Trainz primarily for driving steam in cab mode with physics on, 2009 wasn't going to fit my style of play anyways.

From the sounds of it, 2010 won't float my boat either, but I might well buy it anyways - perhapse it would be easier to create routes if I didn't have to worry about being able to drive the locos in cab-mode.

Either way, this is a disappointing choice by Auran, but one that really doesn't surprise me in the least. I might as well load up my system with as much nice '06-compatible content as I can before "domesday".

Cheers,
[CKT]

But you wouldn't have bought another one anyway. As TS2009 and TS2010 were crap (difficult to be sure obviously as you don't have them) it's a pretty safe bet that TS2011 and TS2012 will be crap as well. What's the problem? You've got a version that you are happy with and you are probably not worried about the screwed steam sounds and dodgy CMP in TRS2006.

That's about the long and short of it really. If people haven't upgraded in the last four years, the chances are that they're not going to upgrade any time soon. That's fine and understandable, everyone has their own reasons to upgrade or not. But as a business, we can't be forever spending money on supporting people who are not our customers.

You know, I'm usually the guy opposing upgrades and software vendor's attempts at extorting fees - especially Microsoft - but gimme a break.

Compared to the hours of enjoyment you get from Trainz, it's the cheapest entertainment on earth.

That doesn't mean Auran can be cocky douchebags about things, because they're operating relative to competitors, and they'll get a serious attitude adjustment.

If SP3 hasn't fixed it, then I imagine that the proposed SP4 probably will, as Auran seem to want to keep 09 and 10 entirely compatible.

This sounds like a whiny young kid wrote this......

This sounds like people are looking down their nose at somebody for posting their opinion! :o

Personally, its hard to be docile when I'm unhappy/angry about something...

I was not "looking down" at my friend. I was pointing out the way the post was written, but I can relate to Woody's post...... (How Grogstop called me an armature).

I am going to have to do something about my spelling on the forums......

Amateur is what I mint, unless my Spech to text program is wrong to!

Uh, check under settings, I believe "Southern Twang" is selected...

(Much love to my friends in the South....):p

I am a little bit out of the loop here, and this thread came as something of a surprise, so I have to ask:

  1. Am I to understand that the stance is 04/06 users no longer able to access DLS, but a 1st class ticket MAY (no guarantee) allow an old version user to stay on?
  2. I read something about older content being deleted from the DLS? What's going on there? Is any content going to be removed from DLS in September?
TIA.

Just because 04/06 are being withdrawn by Auran does not mean we cannot use them!

I'm probably going to move on to '09 soon (I have a 50% discount voucher for S&C, and no copy of S&C, lucky me), so that should last me a couple of years, by which time I probably would have moved on to '10. Nothing lasts forever, no reason why old versions of trainz should. I see it as time to move on from older versions, seeing as they do not offer the features that '09 and '10 do. Shadows not just affecting the ground plain? Yes please. Whatever the faults that newer versions have, there is always a solution, or compromise, that we are happy with.
