I'm working on a route of the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. My interest is primarily from the perspective of a dispatcher, as opposed to a driver, so I essentially want to simulate a centralized traffic control system.
I have successfully used TransDEM to import both terrain elevation data and track layout, and I am doing some basic scenery to give it some visual interest.
For the most part, I'm working from this map:
https://www.anacostia.com/sites/www.anacostia.com/files/assets/PHL_timetable_map.pdf
and what I can glean from https://www.openrailwaymap.org/
I have two questions for which I am seeking help:
1. I have not been able to locate a map that has the rail signals. Any suggestions on where I can find information about the rail signal system in the area? Ideally probably a map or a diagram of the signals and the blocks they control.
2. The PHL map indicates named control points (e.g. CP Marina, or CP Goodwin), which are also indicated on the OpenRailwayMap. My understanding is that a control point is a go/no-go switch (signal?) controlled by CTC. Is there any way to find out how/what these control points control? Are they directional? Are they signals?
I am a novice at railroading, so any help/advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
