Track segment length limits

While running a test of an old TRS2004 map in SP#, I noticed in a few places that the track suddenly stopped but when a train approached the "end" it just kept going as if nothing was wrong. Driving in mid air with not visible means of support didn't seem to bother the train. Changing to Map view showed that the track was still there.

Later in Surveyor, when I tried to move the track, I got an error message saying that the track segment was too long. Since it was a straight run for almost 10 km, I hadn't put in a spline point along the way. By adding a few spline points, I reduced the segment lengths between spline points to around 4 km, which keeps the track visible.

The important point raised there is that there is a performance penalty when long splines are used - be they track, grass, fences, roads, or what-ever. Your vanishing track may be a symptom of that penalty. It is far better to have a long straight spine segment with many spline points than a long straight segment with none.
