EMU derails in Wellington

This morning an EMU from Porirua to Wellington has derailed at Kiawharawhara. From the passengers comments it could have derailed quite a while before it stopped. Article link below.

If it was banging around at Takapu Road (I've also heard Linden), then it was very lucky the carriage stayed (more or less) on its path until after all of the bridges. Despite the modern commuter being addicted to iPhones, you would think that someone would notice that this wasn't usual and pulled the tap?
